6 Skincare Ingredient Combos You Should Never Use Together

Love to pamper your skin with the best products and ingredients that the market has to offer? That’s superb, you deserve all the TLC. However, some skincare products and ingredients just aren’t meant to be together and may be doing more harm than good for your skin. But don’t worry your pretty little head cause we’re giving you the whole lowdown on which pairings you should totally avoid in your beauty routine.

Skincare Pairings That Are A Big No-No

Vitamin C & AHA

Did you know that Vitamin C is inherently a very unstable ingredient? So, while layering products you have to look for actives that are nuetralising. When you apply Vitamin C and AHA together, it isn’t actually as effective and may also irritate the skin, esepcially if you have sensetive skin.

AHA Or BHA & Retinol

Mixing these together could cause severe irritation to the skin. Exfoliating acids like glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid when used together with retinol can really hamper the skin’s pH balance. This combination can also cause ingredient deactivation and not allow your skin to reap the benefits of the ingredients.

Retinol & Vitamin C

If you think applying these two skin brightening and dark spot fading ingredients will do double the magic for your skin, think again. Together these can cause redness, irritation and skin flaking. Instead, use your Vitamin C in the daytime and retinol at night. If your skincare product has both Retinol & Vitamin C as ingredients in it, it means they have been formulated in a way that stabilises both ingredients, in which case you could use it at night.

Retinol & Salicylic Acid

We already told you that retinol shouldn’t be mixed with AHAs and BHAs but it should esepcially never be layered with salicylic acid because this is super drying and irritating for the skin. Instead of these, use naicinamide to calm the skin as itt has anti-inflammtory properties. When applied with salicylic acid, it regulates oil production, cleanses clogged pores and exfoliates the skin.

Vitamin C & Benzoyl Peroxide

While both these are power-packed ingredients in their own rights, together they just don’t match. Benzoyl peroxide actually cancels out the benefits of Vitamin C and oxidises it hence the skin brightening results that you may be seeking just don’t show up.

Aczone & Benzoyl Peroxide

If you’re looking for acne treatements, don’t go self-medicating and use both these ingredients. They will cause your skin to look discoloured and orangish. So, use only one of these for your breakouts if you don’t want any more harm to your skin.
