#RealGirlBeauty: How To Make Unwashed Hair Look Fresh and Fabulous

Priyanka Ghura  |  May 6, 2016

Maybe you hit snooze a bit too many times on your alarm, maybe you just sweated it out at the gym or maybe you just don’t feel like spending an hour washing and blow drying your hair all over again.

We’ve all been there and that not-very-fresh feeling in your mane goes hand-in-hand with flat, lifeless locks. Thankfully, we give you a few tips to help make unwashed hair look fresh and fabulous. No one will ever know that you’re rocking third or even fourth day hair, it can be your dirty secret!

Keep Your Hands Off

We all run our hands through our hair more often than we realise. Doing so transfers natural oils, dirt and germs from our hands to our strands so try to not get touchy-feely with your locks as much as you can. The same goes for brushing and combing, the more you brush your mane, the more oils get distributed from your scalp across your strands.

Change Up Your Part

One super quick way to add a touch of freshness to your locks is to change your parting from one side to the other. This will bring a bit of volume to your flat roots and show cleaner hair on the other side. Plus, flipping over your parting is the easiest way to change up your usual hairstyle as well.

Make Dry Shampoo Your Bestie

You’re probably sick of us pushing you to use this miracle product, but trust us it works wonders in reviving your locks. Just lift a few sections of hair and spritz a bit of a good dry shampoo onto your roots. After a few minutes run a brush through your mane or just tousle it with your fingers and voila, your hair looks fresher, smells better and has got a bit more volume and bounce. Dove Invigorating Dry Shampoo and LUSH No Drought Dry Shampoo are both great picks.

Wash The Front

If you’re feeling like too much of an oil slick, do a quick wash of your bangs and crown, which can be the dirtier compared to the rest of your hair. Just separate the front section of your hair and clip the rest away, do a quick wash in your bathroom sink with a bit of shampoo and blow dry it. It’s much faster than washing your entire mane and will definitely help you look and feel much fresher.

Absorb The Oil

If you haven’t got a can of dry shampoo lying around, one tried and tested trick is to apply a bit of baby powder onto your parting and roots to sap up all that extra greasiness. You can also try blotting it with sulfate free baby wipes.

Cool Off

Plug in your hair dryer and change it to the cool setting, blow it on your hair while running a wide tooth comb through it. This will help add some bounce and liven up your strands. Just make sure to wipe/clean your comb before using it as you don’t want any oil from previous uses to rub onto your locks.
