5 Real-Life Love Stories In Bollywood That Were Not Meant To Be

Falling in love is a wonderful feeling. Especially when that love ends in a happily ever after. Loving someone deeply but not being able to spend your life with them can be heartbreaking. We felt you Ayan when you laid bare your love for Alizeh in Channa Mereya, and we cried, too, for the lost love in our lives.

Well, this is also what happened to these Bollywood celebrities. They fell head over heels in love with someone and wanted to get married but destiny had other plans for them. The love stories of these Bolly stars are proof that there is no pain in this world greater than that of a love that couldn’t see the light of the day.

5 Real-Life Love Stories In Bollywood That Could Have Been

Karan Johar-Twinkle Khanna

It was never a secret in B-town that Karan Johar had a crush on his best friend, author and former actor, Twinkle Khanna. Things became clearer when Mrs Funnybones announced on Koffee With Karan how KJo had once confessed his love for her. In fact, the filmmaker also admitted later that Twinkle was “the only girl” he had ever been in love with. Twinkle, however, rejected Karan’s advances and went on to marry the Khiladi of Bollywood, Akshay Kumar. It was even rumoured that Karan’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil was inspired by his real-life one-sided love story.

On a lighter note, we found this cute phone cover on POPxo Shop that may perfectly sum up KJo’s emotions:

Sanjeev Kumar-Hema Malini

Sanjeev Kumar first met the Dream Girl, Hema Malini, on the sets of Seeta Aur Geeta. He was so smitten by her that by the time the shooting ended, he proposed marriage to her. Hema’s mother, however, disapproved of the relationship, and the actress went on to marry Dharmendra instead. It’s said that Sanjeev was so hurt by the turn of events that he decided to remain single for the rest of his life. And so he did! The three of them also worked together in Sholey.

Amitabh Bachchan-Rekha

Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s affair became the talk of the town when Rekha made a hyped entry at Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s wedding wearing a mangalsutra and sindoor. Bachchan was already married to Jaya at the time. Though Rekha was always vocal and unapologetic about this relationship, Big B never admitted it in public. Speaking about Amitabh’s denial of the relationship, Rekha had once said in an interview, “Why should he have not done it? He did it to protect his image, his family, his children. Why should the public know of my love for him or his love for me? I love him and he loves me – that’s it! If he’d reacted that way towards me in private, I would have been very disappointed.”

Kangana Ranaut-Hrithik Roshan

It’s still a mystery whether there was a one-sided affair or a full-fledged romance between the two actors. Kangana and Hrithik’s much-talked-about spat started when Kangana took a dig at Hrithik with her “silly ex” comment. However, Hrithik constantly denied being in a relationship with the Queen actress. After a series of allegedly one-sided emails sent by Kangana to the War star started doing the rounds, many actors from Bollywood including Shekhar Suman (Kangana also dated his son Adhyayan Suman) came out in support of Hrithik calling the alleged affair a “one sided thing”.

Govinda-Neelam Kothari

Though both Neelam and Govinda are happily married now, obviously to different people, there was a time when Govinda wanted to marry his Gharana co-star. However, whenever he raised the topic of marriage, Neelam just laughed it off. So, Govinda got engaged to Sunita Ahuja under tremendous pressure from his mother. In a bare-it-all interview, Govinda had confessed that he could not get over Neelam even after marrying Sunita. In fact, he even asked Sunita to change herself and become more like Neelam! Also, he almost called off his engagement because Sunita had talked ill about Neelam.

Not all love stories are happily ever after and that, my friends, is the harsh reality of life.
