From High School Sweethearts To Life Partners – This Love Story Is Adorable!

As told by Tanvi Srivastava.

Sagar and I were in the same class, same school and even the same school bus. We were never best of friends but when he joined my coaching center, we gradually got to know each other. And even though I had known him forever, there were tiny details about him that I discovered later which made me realize how amazing he is.

It was the beginning of class XIth when we started spending more and more time with each other. We were together pretty much all day every day and yet we weren’t exclusive. I had made a pact with myself that I don’t want to date anyone until I am in college and he knew about it.

Time passed and Sagar was head over heels in love with me. And to be honest, probably I was too. But I was afraid to admit it.

You know those butterflies you get when you fall in love for the first time, well, I was full of that overwhelming feeling and yet I couldn’t do anything about it. XIth got over and we were almost halfway through XIIth when I just couldn’t handle the conflicted emotions taking a toll on me. We both knew the underlying feelings we had for each other.

I still remember, after our winter vacation, on a chilly January morning, when Sagar and I were walking towards our school bus and he said “Listen, I need to tell you something.” I knew exactly what was at the other end of this conversation and I was torn between “I don’t want to know this” and “I do want you to say it”.

He confessed his feelings and I, well, I was so overcome with this gush of emotions that I froze. I left without saying anything. I told him to wait and had the ‘I don’t want to date anyone right now’ conversation. But eight months later, bam, we were together. Yes, I know, I know, eight months is a long time but I wanted to be sure.

We FINALLY started dating each other but then came another bump, I had to move to Jaipur for further studies and he was still in Delhi. Our love bloomed over yahoo messenger, google video chats and text messages. Soon, it was a year and love was still in the air. We met after almost six months and that feeling was inexplicable.

You know, unlike what they say, there’s no one single moment that tells you that this person is ‘the one’ for you. There are those hundred little moments that make up for that decision.

Staying up for each other just so we could hear each other’s voices, sending those sweet emails after a fight, understanding each other more than anyone and being in a long distance relationship – not everyone is blessed with a relationship like this.

You won’t believe but even after my graduation, I did my post grad from a different city and we made LDR work for six long years.

There were certain tough times we both had to go through during our journey of love, but we made it work. I knew I wanted him to be my life partner because even though my parents didn’t approve of him in the first go, my darling boyfriend wooed them and they too realized I couldn’t have found anyone better than him.

We decided to marry each other after being in a relationship for eight long years to spend the rest of our lives together. I don’t have a grand proposal story but I do have that sweet moment etched in my heart when on our wedding day, after I walked the aisle, Sagar gave me a rose and told me he loved in front of our entire families.

He’s the one I love the most, he makes me happy and I can’t imagine my life without him.
