And while many like to take their long holiday in December, the smart spender this year is planning short-haul in December and longer trips in September, when flights and hotels are not showing frenzied pricing. So put your travel plans into action because, let’s face it, most parts of the country are cooling down! As we draw a close to the heavy monsoon spells, here is a list of places to visit in India this September for the perfect end-of-year expedition you know you’re craving!

1. Ramlila, Varanasi

What’s happening: The City of Light has been religiously hosting the Ramlila in Varanasi’s Ramnagar Fort for the past 233 years; a spectacle that spans across a whole month! The lead characters are played by boys below the age of 16 who are required to enunciate in Sanskrit to be cast in the performance. No artificial lighting or props are used; using only the natural setting, the story is brought to life. Here’s your unique chance to relive the history!
