Pernia Qureshi Wore Her Mom’s Wedding Gharara That Was Hand-Stitched By Her Nani

Every bride-to-be dreams of the perfect wedding outfit. While a lot of us might fixate on a gorgeous Sabyasachi Lehenga or an elegant Anita Dongre sari, one way to make your bridal outfit even more special (and cost-effective) is re-wearing a family heirloom, worn by a loved one on their own wedding day.

Fashion mogul Pernia Qureshi did just that when it came to choosing an outfit for her wedding reception in Mumbai, which was held on October 8 at Taj Lands End. Instead of going for a fancy designer label, Pernia decided to restore and re-create the farshi gharara worn by her mother on her wedding day.

She shared a picture of the outfit on Instagram, writing, “The most special outfit yet.
My Mom’s wedding farshi gharara recreated and restored for my wedding ❤️.
It was originally hand stitched by my Nani for Mom and now redone by @houseofkotwara.
#psiloveyou”. Have a look:

Doesn’t she look ethereal?

The stunner of an outfit consisted of a red kurta, a matching sheer dupatta, and a gharara comprising multi-coloured layers of fabric in shades of yellow, green and purple. The gharara was made using real zari and was designed in Surat by House of Kotwara. According to a media report, the whole process from ordering the fabric and zari to its embroidery took about 22 months to complete.

A regal outfit like that can only be accessorised with the most exquisite jewellery, and Pernia decided to go with a gold choker, a rani haar, a pearl necklace, a matha patti, a delicate nath, passa and earrings–all from Amrapali Jewels.

When it came to her makeup, celebrity makeup artist Namrata Soni gave Pernia a dewy skin, bronzed cheeks and red lips.

Pernia got hitched to her longtime beau and Gits scion, Sahil Gilani, in Istanbul, Turkey, earlier this month. She sure wowed the beauty and fashion enthusiast is us with each and every one of the outfits she wore for the ceremonies. Pernia wore an embellished ivory lehenga by Pakistani label ÉLAN for the wedding, a rose gold and blush pink outfit by Dubai-based designer Faraz Manan for the sangeet and an ivory salwaar-kameez from her own label for the wedding.

Which one of these jaw-dropping outfits was your favourite?
