New To Online Dating? 8 Tips To Get It Right!

Online dating is the new entrant in the field of relationship hunting! And the beauty of it is that it means different things to different people. While some are on it just for casual fun, others look at it as a way to find the one. If you’re new to this form of dating, or want to just know more about it, here are 8 useful tips to help you get the best experience out of it!

1. Work On Your Profile

This is the first step – and the main THING – for attracting some interesting matches on a dating space. Work on your profile by adding an attractive profile picture of yourself and a killer bio or description! Your profile picture is the first thing people look at before they swipe right/ click heart, etc.,, so it better be one of your best! The bio could include anything that describes your personality. This should be your hobbies, profession or certain traits you’re looking for in a partner. Once that’s done, you can move on to the next step!

2. Have A Specific Goal In mind

Before joining a dating app, ask yourself what’s your purpose for being on it. Are you looking for a casual relationship, a serious one, or even friendship? You NEED to have a specific idea before you start swiping. This will help you filter and prioritize your matches better.

3. Choose Your Dating App/ Forum Wisely

Not all dating apps or websites are safe. There are some that have plenty of fake profiles and people with not-so-nice intentions. If you aren’t careful, this could get you into some serious trouble. Before getting hooked onto an online dating platform, do some research. Read up on the app, and check reviews. Also helps to check with your friends about the kind of experiences they’ve had on specific sites or apps. After weighing the pros and cons and listening to your instincts, settle for one. Your safety is important. That’s why you should choose well!

4. Don’t Be TOO Picky

When you’re surfing through profiles, keep an open mind. Don’t be too picky while choosing a guy – it’s just a first step towards a conversation, not a commitment. And for all you know, what he lacks in looks (or selfie-taking skills), he could make up in personality. Give everyone you think is worthy a shot. Who knows? You might at least find a few good friends in the process!

5. Ask Tons Of Questions

Once you’ve found an interesting guy, start a conversation! Make it fresh, fun and light. It’s important to know if the both of you are on the same page. Take it slow, and give it some time before you venture out on an actual date. You want to know if he’s safe and trustworthy. Only once you’re sure of him, should you take things forward! (And if there’s even a hint of creepiness in his manner or conversation, just get out of it then and there.)

6. Don’t Give Out Too Much Information, Please

The key to communicating through online dating sources is getting more information than giving out. Remember that this man you find attractive is still a stranger to you at the end of the day. Sometimes looks and first impressions can be deceptive. Do a background check before you give out too many intimate details. Check him out on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get a better sense of who he is as a person. You want to be a hundred percent sure of someone before you start sharing anything with them!

7. Fix A Date

Once you’ve figured out that this is a person you definitely want to meet, it’s time to take it to the next level. Make a plan, fix a date. To be on the safe side, pick a place that’s popular and not isolated. Since you’re meeting him for the very first time, you don’t want your date to turn into an unpleasant experience.

8. Don’t Settle For Less

Regardless of whether your date blooms into a relationship or not, NEVER settle for less. Just like how you found him, there are other interesting men out there too. Have a mental relationship goals list, and ask yourself if he’s actually boyfriend material, or a long-term partner in the making – whatever it is that YOU want.
