#MyStory: He Asked For My Bestie’s Number While We Were Dating!

The first time I met Sahil was during our college fest, where both of us were on the event organization team. We were pursuing Masters from the same college in Mumbai but in different subjects so we hadn’t ever met before that day. During the fest we actually started talking to each other a lot. We used to hang out even after the team had left and often used to do most of our tasks together. Both of us were sports enthusiasts, so we would spend hours discussing the latest changes in EPL or how Rahul Dravid was the best cricketer, ever!

I would take out time in the middle of the classes to meet him in the canteen and so would he. And this is how it all started – maybe it was his charm or the way he talked so passionately about sports, that made me fall for him. We used to go out for coffee or dinners every week, but neither of us decided to tag them as ‘dates.’

One day while we were chilling on Marine Drive after one of our ‘coffee dates’, Sahil told me that he had two tickets for the cricket match at Wankhede Stadium. Much to my surprise, he asked me to accompany him. I obviously said yes as I was super excited although calmly underplayed it.

On the day of the match, we had a blast – cheering for the Indian team, talking to him about the strategies and having a ball, in general. Like a gentleman, he dropped me home and surprised me with a little peck on the cheek.

“I had a great time with you today,” he said.

“Me too! Thanks for taking me to the game!” I replied.

“I guess, we should do this again sometime and go on a proper date.”

“Date? You want to go on a date with me?” I asked him.

“Why not! I like you and enjoy spending time with you. I guess it’s time we go on an official date.” he smiled at me.

“Sure, I would like that.”

And with that, we started dating. Nothing serious, though. Apart from our usual dates, we used to hang out with our friends, too. Soon, both of us graduated and I started working for a Sports Management Company while Sahil was still looking for jobs. After weeks of trying to get a full-time job, he settled for an internship in the company I worked for. I had told him about the opportunity and as he had nothing else, he went ahead with it.

A few weeks later, while I was coming back home from work, I received a text from Sahil that said, “Hey! Can you please send me Naina’s number?” I was sort of shocked because Naina was one of my closest friends and I couldn’t think of a reason why he would want her number. I decided to call him up and ask what was going on and why he needed her number. What he said next made my blood boil. He told me, as we were not really in a relationship, he wanted to meet other girls and see what happens. I wanted to cry and get away from him at the same time. Look at the audacity of this guy! I get that we were not serious, but asking ME for my friend’s number was just crazy!

I told Naina about the situation and she was livid. I called him up and ended everything. I didn’t want to be with a guy like him. And now when I think about it, I’m glad it’s over. Although it still makes me sad that he pulled such a jackass move but I guess, some people are never meant for you.
