#MyStory: He Leaned In To Kiss Me On Our First Date And…

A few weeks ago, when my best friend asked me if I would like to go on a date with his friend, Aditya, from college, I was too scared to even consider it. The thing is, I’d never been on a date before! I was 22 and had never dated anybody all my life. So naturally, I was a bit skeptical. I don’t really have a reason as to why I never dated someone, but let’s just say I’d never met someone who I really liked.

I had met Aditya just once or twice, when he had been visiting from Ahmedabad, and I was kinda surprised to find out that he had asked my bestie to set us up. So when my bestie asked me if I’d like to go on a date with him the first time, I straight away said no. But a few days later when he brought up the topic again, I started to think that it might be nice to go out and meet someone new. And it might also be a mini adventure to go on a date, as I’d never been on one. He sent me his number and mine to him…and with that we started chatting on WhatsApp. Aditya asked me when I’d be free so he could come to Delhi and meet me. I told him I’d be free next Saturday and we decided to meet in Connaught Place.

The next Saturday, Aditya flew down to Delhi to meet me and honestly, I was secretly flattered that he would actually come all the way. We had been continuously chatting on WhatsApp and had spoken over the phone multiple times, so I thought that I won’t feel uncomfortable. But my stomach was telling me a different story! We finally met outside a cafe in CP and he greeted me with a smile and a side hug. I don’t even know how to describe what I was feeling at that moment. My palms were sweating, my heart was beating fast and I was extremely nervous.

We went inside the cafe and found ourselves a cozy spot and placed our order. Both of us were looking at each other, hoping the other would start the conversation…when finally Aditya asked me, ‘So, how was your day?’

I thought, ‘How was my day – really? that’s all he could come up with?!’ Well, that was my first thought but I was actually glad that he started talking because I would have just stared at him. Once we started talking though, there was no stopping us; we talked about everything under the sun – from our favourite football teams to politics. I was super impressed by how well read he was and I was glad I went out with this intelligent, mature and like-minded guy. Maybe, this is what I was looking for…

Later that evening, we were just walking around when we realized it was eight in the evening and Aditya had to catch a flight back to Ahmedabad. He asked me if he could drop me home, and we talked some more on the way back to my place. When we reached the main gate, Aditya turned to me and told me he enjoyed the evening and would like to meet up for another date, whenever he’s in Delhi. I nodded in agreement as I wanted to meet him again as well. It might be too soon but I kinda liked him. We hugged while sitting in the car and he leaned towards me.

It was my first date ever and I had no clue if I should kiss him or not…  I could hear my heart thudding in my chest. I had never kissed a guy before and I guess he sensed my discomfort (or maybe I made it obvious by leaning back), so he kissed me on my cheek instead. I swear my face was red and I told him that I had no clue how these things worked. I mean, come on, he tried to kiss me on our first date, how was I supposed to react? Especially for someone who’d never been kissed before! He chuckled and said, ‘It’s okay. I should have asked first.’ Was I dreaming? I didn’t know that a guy could be this nice and now, I kinda regret not kissing him then. We hugged again and said our goodbyes.

I am actually glad that I decided to keep my fear aside and go on a date with such a gentleman. We still text each other and talk over the phone. Our second date will happen soon as he’s going to be in town this month. Am I excited? Hell, yeah! I’m trying not to get too ahead of myself, but I guess (and hope) that we do have a future together.
