Mouni Roy Reveals Her Role In Brahmastra: ‘Ayan Mukerji Had Seen Naagin & Felt I Could Play The Villain’

Brahmastra is one film that has been in the news since we can remember even though it is not actually going to release for the next nine months. The Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer, that sparked a serious relationship between the two, is also said to have ignited similar feelings between the film’s director Ayan Mukerji and Mouni Roy who, BTW, is playing the villain in the film. That’s right, we finally have some clarity on Mouni’s role in Brahmastra and just like her, we too did not see this coming.

The 33-year-old actress, who made her Bollywood debut with Akshay Kumar’s Gold, has just confirmed that she is the main antagonist in the highly anticipated film of 2019. “I am playing the main villain in the film. I am really looking forward to it. What is more liberating for me is playing different characters that challenge me. I was surprised initially that they wanted me to play the villain,” she told PTI.

Mouni added, “Ayan Mukherji had seen something from Naagin and felt I could play the villain. So you never know what clicks with whom. As an actor, you should be willing to experiment and be versatile otherwise you can’t learn and grow.”

Mouni Roy gained a tremendous following since her lead roles in Naagin and Naagin 2. However, she backed out of Naagin 3 and, well, now we know why.

Talking about the cast of the film which also includes living legend Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni said, “My life is fulfilled after working with Mr Bachchan. Ranbir and Alia are sweethearts, they are too good. They all are such big stars that you get scared walking on the sets. They all have been so generous, welcoming and made me feel comfortable. With great success and talent, they also have that humility and are accepting people from outside.”

Brahmastra is a three-part film produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Production with the first part of the trilogy starring Ranbir, Alia, Mouni and Amitabh.

Currently, Roy is busy promoting RAW: Romeo Akbar Walter opposite John Abraham where she plays his love interest. She has just announced a film with Nawazuddin Siddiqui called Bole Chudiyan and another one with Rajkummar Rao called Made in China. As of now, the actress is off enjoying a vacation.

Having seen Mouni in lead roles in TV serials, the prospect of watching her as a villain on the big screen sure sounds exciting to us.
