Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu Opens Up About Being Body Shamed & Her Story Is Awe-Inspiring

We thought that the days of judging people for their weight were way past us. But it turns out that it’s still very much a reality for many women. And TBH, it doesn’t matter if you’re a famous actor or even a crowned beauty pageant winner. Unfortunately, you may still find yourself under the scanner of idealised beauty norms. Recently, Miss Universe 2022 Harnaaz Sandhu opened up about how she was a victim of online bullying due to her sudden weight gain. And NGL fam, it’s truly devastating.

In an interview, Harnaaz revealed that she gained a few pounds since the pageant and has witnessed a barrage of unsolicited opinions about her weight. She said, “Physically I have kind of grown, got more pounds and increased my weight, which I am totally comfortable about right now. But I was bullied for gaining weight. It was kind of uncomfortable and really surprising for me to see how people started having their opinions, which should not really matter.” Well, thin or fat, we feel that no one should comment on another person’s body weight. And defs not troll them about it over social media.

Harnaaz also spoke about how she’s broken down on several occasions because of the mean comments. “I definitely broke down so many times. Sometimes in the most unexpected times. I’m just about to go on stage or something and this whole thing comes to mind. It’s really sad”.

However, model and pageant winner Harnaaz did not let the trolls win and has adopted a new philosophy in life. She said, “I’ve gone through that phase of my life where I used to feel bad about everything. Now, I started loving everything. It’s okay to cry. It’s okay to feel sad.”

She further added, “We all are imperfect. We need to realise that there’s a point where we understand that we need to embrace our flaws and when you do that, you can conquer anything in this world.” Yasss queen! You tell them how it’s done.

Here’s hoping that Harnaaz’s story will help people realise that body-shaming is extremely detrimental. And being kind can go a long way!
