#BeautyHacks: Humidity Ruining Your Makeup? Here’s What You Gotta Do!

Dishita Solanki  |  May 6, 2016

The monsoons are almost over, sure, but does the humidity show any signs of going away? Nope. And that just means one thing: your makeup always feels like it’s about to melt off. But we tell you a few super-neat tricks for dealing with that problem! Read on to find out some fab makeup tips for humid weather.

A Few Basic Rules

1. Focus on “Lips and Cheeks”

The makeup mantra for this season is “Lips and Cheeks” – these two features can brighten up your whole face and give it maximum colour in this gloomy weather, so you should focus on them.

2. Keep Yourself Hydrated

The body does not ask for water at this time as much as it does in the summer, but always make it a point to stay hydrated by having 7-9 glasses of water a day. Flaky skin is so not a problem you ever want to deal with.

3. Don’t Skip Sun Protection

Always wear sun protection, even if you think that there is no direct sun exposure because it’s cloudy. UV rays can do way too much damage to your skin. The Eau Thermal Avene Very High Protection Spray SPF50+ comes highly recommended.

4. Moisturizing Is Key

For dry skin: Humidity clogs the pores by making dust particles settle on your face and cling to your skin. Cleanse at least twice a day and moisturize well. For oily skin: Humidity in the air will make your pores release more oil. Use an oil-free cleanser 2-3 times a day and apply a mild water-based moisturizer. The Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisture is a good option to try.

Makeup Dos and Don’ts

1. Lay the Base

Keep the base makeup minimal in this weather. Your skin ought to look like an extension of yourself and not a mask. Tinted moisturizer, in your exact skin tone, is a much better option than a foundation or a powder. Try the Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer. Avoid using concealer as the humidity will make it clumpy after some time.

2. Highlight Your Cheeks

A pop of colour on your cheeks is all you need to feel brighter in this weather. It looks the prettiest when you can’t tell that you are wearing a blush, hence a cream blush or a cheek tint is a better option than a powder blush. It’s easier to apply and blend on a tinted moisturizer base too, and it will last longer, giving your face a fresh, dewy finish. Try the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge for Lips and Cheeks. Pro-tip: Shades of apricot, pink and peach will look fresher compared to nude, brown or bronze tones.

3. Add Some Colour to Your Lips

Keep your lips matte and minimal. Lip stain is the best option as it will not smudge despite the humidity. Filling in your lips with a lip liner will also makes the colour last longer. Put the maximum colour on the central inner part of your lips. Smudge the colour outwards, fading towards the lip line. This will give it a more natural, stained look. The Body Shop Lip & Cheek Stain is great!

4. Do Your Eyes and Brows

Use a long-lasting gel liner, like the award-winning Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner, to just fill in the gaps in your top lashes to give an illusion of fuller lashes. Top it off with waterproof mascara. Smudged eye makeup is something you don’t want ruining your look. Keep your eyebrows in shape with threading and add a bit of hair gel to keep them in place. You cannot use an eyebrow pencil in peak humidity without risking it getting smeared across your brow!

Just remember: Cheeks and Lips! 🙂
