There is something about true crime documentaries that makes them so addictive! I don’t know about anyone else but for me, human nature has always been fascinating. I spend too much of my time pondering over questions like are people born evil or do they turn evil? And if it’s the latter, what is it exactly that turns them evil?

So when the docuseries House of Secrets: The Burari Deaths dropped online, I knew I had to watch it. And no joke, I binged on three episodes in one night! If this has happened to you as well, then there are a few more true crime documentaries that you should check out.

Warning: You might find it hard to sleep after watching them!

The Idaho girl was abducted by her decades-older neighbour Robert Berchtold in the 1970s. Jan was sexually assaulted, brutalised and kept hostage for 4 months.

The Talwars: Behind Closed Doors

The 2008 double murder case shook the country. The documentary examines the mystery behind the death of 13-year-old Aarushi Talwar and her family servant Hemraj Banjade. The feeling of helplessness one experiences while watching the documentary is unmatched.

I Don’t Like Mondays

A 16-year-old teenager opened fire on a school playground in 1979 in Cleveland, USA. She killed 2 adults and injured 8 kids. Reason? She didn’t like Mondays. (No one likes Mondays, but isn’t this a whole new level of hate?)

The Ted Bundy Tapes

What goes on inside the mind of a criminal mastermind? The American documentary explores just that as we look at serial killer Ted Bundy’s life, crimes, arrests, his escapes and death in detail. He confessed to 30 homicides but the real count remains unknown.

India’s Daughter

Who can ever forget about the gruesome gang rape and murder of 23-year-old ‘Nirbhaya’ in Delhi? The documentary film explores the events of the night of December 16, 2012, and how the case caused national outrage.

Operation Black Tornado

The deadly 26/11 Mumbai attacks left the entire country in chaos. This documentary does not focus on the attack but the defence operation that commenced after the Mumbai Police secured hijacked places. It also contains interviews of police personnel involved in the operation.
