11 Life-Changing Curly Hair Hacks & Tips To Try

As much as I love my curls, I have to admit, looking after them is a tedious task. But before you invest in hair care products or start a new hair care routine, it’s important to know the texture of your curls. Do you have wavy, loose curls or are they tight and spiralled? Once you have clarity about its type, you’re ready to treat them with better care. Hair products, heat, pollution and water, play a vital role in defining your curls. To make the life of a curly-haired girl easier, here are 11 life-changing curly hair hacks that are totally worth a giving a try. (You’re welcome!)

1. Go The ‘No Poo’ Way

You must know that not every shampoo product out there means well for your hair. Most of them are packed with chemicals and toxins that cause damage and distress to your strands. One of the most common reasons why frizz occurs is because you’re using shampoos that contain sulphates, parabens and chemicals. Which is precisely why you should join the no-poo movement. It’s basically washing your hair with a milder alternative to shampoos like baking soda, plain water or apple cider vinegar.

2. Started From The Bottom Now We’re Here!

When combing your mane, always start at the bottom as it allows you to gently detangle each knot. Slowly make your way to the top without putting too much pressure on the brush. We also recommend that you use a wide-tooth comb or opt for finger-combing because brushing can damage fragile curls.

3. Swap Your Towel For A Cotton T-Shirt

As soon as you step out of a shower, use a T-shirt to wring out the water from your hair. As compared to towels, cotton T-shirts prevent hair from getting tangled like a pro! Another tip, apply serum or mousse to wet hair before you wrap it up in the t-shirt. This hack will improve the texture of your curls and make them smooth and baby soft.

4. In The Mood For Some Cocktails?

Have you ever heard of product cocktailing? In order to meet your specific styling needs, you can mix two or more hairstyling products together. For moist and hydrated curls, try mixing natural coconut oil with mousse or styling gel. Feel free to experiment till you find a combination that works for your hair type.

5. Befriend The Diffuser

The whole purpose of using a diffuser is to evenly distribute heat without focusing on just one area. It’s a blow dryer attachment that helps minimize the frizz and evens out the curling pattern. Apply a heat protectant mousse before using the diffuser. Then, gently plop your strands into the diffuser and allow the heat to dry the extra moisture away. In a matter of few minutes, your curls will start to look more structured and defined.

6. Condition Your Goldilocks While You Work It

Just before you workout, apply a deep conditioner to your hair and tie it up into a bun or ponytail. You see, the heat released post workout helps lock moisture for nourished, soft curls. After your workout, don’t forget to have a head bath.  Your curls (along with your body) will thank you for this sweat sesh.

7. Comb Your Hair In The Shower

Ladies, hair is most fragile when it’s wet. However, if you take extra care and be gentle with your curls, this hack may actually benefit you. All you’ve got to do is apply conditioner for curly hair and comb it through your hair while you’re still in the shower. This helps detangle the knots and prevents the frizz from showing up.

8. Have You Heard Of The Pineapple Trick?

Pineappling is a hair trick that involves gathering your hair into a loose bun or ponytail at the highest point of your head. This technique helps maintain hair’s natural volume without pulling your curls out or causing damage to them. Care to try?

9. For The Love Of Coconut Oil

To give hair that extra shine, use coconut oil before you shower. It acts as a deep conditioner and tackles split-ends and dryness with minimum effort. Plus, you can use the oil to massage your scalp and hydrate your locks. If you have dry and brittle hair, this trick will be perfect for you!

10. Make A Hairspray At Home

Whenever your curls look tired and dull, you can bring them back to life by simply spraying your ends with water and a leave-in conditioner. Don’t forget to scrunch and style your curls after. If you ask us, this hack works best for days in between washes.

11. Satin Pillowcases are the Best

Ditch the cotton pillowcases for satin ones. You’ll love them because they’ll protect your precious curls from getting tangled, frizzy and flat. To maintain your curls, before going to bed, tie your hair up into a loose bun so that its shape and volumes remained protected all through the night.
