10 Questions You Should Definitely Ask Your Gynae!

The human body is a complicated creation. Especially the woman’s body – with all the things that it can do, understanding it is a feat in itself. Here are 10 questions to ask your gynaecologist during your next visit, because it’s about time you understand your body better!

1. Why are my periods heavy/light?

If you bleed heavy or hardly bleed at all during your period, your hormones could be the cause. Your gynaecologist can help you figure out whether the flow of your period is normal for your body type or not.

2. Should I worry about itching down there?

Occasional itching is completely normal. However, if it is persistent and hurts you, then you should get it checked. It could be minor skin irritation or an infection.

3. Why is sex painful sometimes?

There are a lot of reasons for why sex can be painful sometimes. Instead of jumping to conclusions on your own, ask your gynae about it. You will be able to figure out the proper reason behind it and also, what your next step should be.

4. Is it safe to have sex during my period?

This is one of those decisions in life which depend on how you prefer things. However, you can always consult your gynae on whether having sex while on your period is a safe option and how you can go about it.

5. Should I be grooming down there?

Although it is always a question of personal preference, your gynaecologist can tell you what would be a better way – to shave, trim or wax. You can even ask your doubts about whether there is any real risk involved in grooming down there.

6. How can I perform a proper breast self-exam?

It’s very important for you to be able to learn to do this on your own instead of always waiting for your next check up. Your gynaecologist can actually teach you how to perform a breast self-exam easily.

7. How often should I get tested for STDs?

Depending on how often you are having sex and with how many partners, your gynae can help you figure out how often you need to get tested and why it is equally important for your partner to get tested.

8. Why does it smell funny down there?

All of us, women, have a certain distinct smell. There are several reasons that determine this odour – our hormones, hygiene and even the food we eat. Your gynae will be able to tell you if what you’ve been smelling is just your normal odour or the sign of an infection.

9. What is vaginal discharge?

Vaginal discharge is normal. Especially the clear or white kind is not something that you should concern yourself. However, your gynae can explain in detail the different kinds of vaginal discharge, why they differ and which ones are a cause of concern.

10. What are my options when it comes to birth control?

There are tonnes of birth control options available in this day and age. From periods delay tablets, shots, sponges, vaginal rings, patches, and of course, condoms – the choices are endless. But which one is the right option for you? Only your gynae can help you with proper pros and cons of each of them.
