#BeautyDiaries: How I Turned My Straight Hair Wavy Without Heat

Even when people told me they loved my straight hair, I would just sigh and thank them instead of actually feeling grateful. Why? Because that is all I could have! My straight and super silky hair meant no hairstyle lasted more than a couple of hours. And in an age where all my friends were curling their hair or trying out new styles, I was left with just a nice mane of straight hair. Before you start thinking that I should feel blessed about my strands, imagine never being able to experiment with your mane. It’s Boring with a capital ‘B’!

I know most girls would kill for straight, soft hair and I should stop complaining and feel blessed. But I guess the grass is always greener on the other side, so I never understood people’s obsession with straightening their hair. All I wanted were those wonderful soft curls and for them to last an entire day, at least!

Of course, the internet came to my rescue and I found an article on how you can give yourself natural curls without using any kind of heat or products. All I had to do was wet my hair a little bit (but not too much), tie it up in little braids and then roll those braids into small buns before going to sleep. Yes, I know it sounds like a lot of work but it didn’t take me longer than 15 minutes to do, along with a little help from my mother.

This is what I ended up looking like after I had set my hair.

You can use bobby pins to secure the little buns in case your hair keeps getting loose. I didn’t use any because I wanted to get a good night’s sleep. Even though I thought it would be really uncomfortable to sleep with my hair all tied up, it really wasn’t that big a task. In fact, I didn’t even realise there was so much going on with my hair once my head hit the pillow.

The next morning, I woke up and excitedly opened my hair to see what the lovely outcome would be. Of course, my hair did not turn into proper curls overnight but instead, I got the classy wavy hair look which instantly added some great volume to my hair.

Even though my curly hair experiment failed (I guess I would just have to give up on my curly haired dream), I got something better in return!

So whenever I want to get ready for a party or a wedding and I don’t have time to visit the parlour, I use this little trick and give my hair a quick makeover!
