#GetTheLook: How to Create Lush, Loose Waves Like Katrina Kaif in 2 Ways!

Priyanka Ghura  |  May 6, 2016

She may not experiment with her hair too much, but there’s no denying that Kat’s long, lustrous locks are definitely a thing of envy! She wears her hair straight most of the time, but we absolutely love it when she steps out with lush, fabulous waves, paired with a bright red pout for plenty of glam with a dash of sexy. We tell you how to create soft, loose waves like Katrina Kaif in two ways: with a curling iron, as well as without using any heat. Ditch your straightener and step out with rich waves on your next big night out to turn heads!

Method 1: Using Heat

You will need:

Step 1: Prep Your Mane

Make sure your hair is completely dry before plugging in the curling iron. You can start on hair that is air-dried if your hair is straight; if you have curly hair then you should blow-dry it straight using a paddle brush before beginning. Next, divide your hair into two sections, so half your hair is up and half is down, to start curling your hair from the bottom and working to the top. If you have thicker hair, you may need to create more than two sections.

Step 2: Get Curling

Once your hair is divided, start from above your ear on one side, taking a bit of hair that is about two to three inches wide. Comb it out, spritz a tiny bit of styling spray on it before clamping it around the curling iron, holding the iron vertically for a few seconds before sliding it out, giving you a spiral curl. Use your fingers to comb out the curl so it goes from ringlet-looking to a more relaxed, looser wave. Continue this process till you reach the back of your head, then move to the front of the opposite side and repeat this method till you reach the back. Do the same for the other section as well. Make sure to curl your hair away from your face on each side.

Step 3: Finishing Touches

Once all your hair has been curled and if any curls haven’t come out right, go back and re-curl them. Use your fingers to shake out any tight curls. If you feel like you need some volume on the crown, take a two-inch section at the top, near the back of your head and back-comb, before using the comb to lightly smoothen the top of the backcombed section so it doesn’t look messy or tangled. Add a few finishing spritzes of hairspray to make sure your waves look fabulous and stay in place no matter what.

Method 2: No Heat

You will need:

Step 1: Prep Your Hair

Towel-dry your mane and let it naturally dry till it is about 80% dry. (You can use a blow-dryer to blast-dry your hair if you want to speed up the process, but that would require using heat.)

Step 2: Time to Pigtail

Divide your hair into two, straight down the back, and braid each side behind the ear loosely and secure with a hair-tie. Wrap both braids into a bun at ear-level and keep them in place using bobby pins.

Step 3: Gorgeous and Tousled

Let your hair dry for an hour and then undo the buns. Flip your head over, spritz on some texturizing spray and gently finger-comb your waves. Add a bit of shine spray and your ready to stun with your soft, glossy waves.
