Assam’s 18-year-old Hima Das has created history. The daughter of a rice farmer from Dhing village in Nagaon district has won a gold medal in a 400-meter race at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. This is the first time ever that an Indian has won a gold in a 400-meter race.
She started off slow and gradually gained pace. In the last 80 meters, Hima’s lightning fast speed made her overtake three rivals and beat Romania’s Andrea Miklos, who won silver and USA’s Taylor Manson who won bronze.
She completed her incredible run in 51.46 seconds. Watch the video to see how she did India proud.
