Sunday Shorts: 3 Heartwarming Tales About Forgiveness!

1. The yearbook

One day before his wedding, he sat with his yearbook on his lap, staring at her photograph, and what she had written beside his…

“Besties, forever and ever and ever. Don’t you dare forget me!”

Today, seven years later, he dialled her number for the first time.

“Hello,” she answered. Her voice hadn’t changed a bit in the last seven years.

“I am so sorry…” he said, as a tear stained his left cheek.

After a spell of deep silence, he could feel her teary eyed smile as she said, “Congratulations. I wish you both a lifetime of happiness.”

Being forgiven had never before brought so much guilt, and so many tears…

2. The one who never left…

If you really loved someone, you would never do anything to hurt them. Contrary to that popular belief, they are hurt the most by people they love the most. I cheated on him when I knew I shouldn’t have. After three long months of hiding this toxic lie from him, I just couldn’t anymore.

I walked up to him and poured my guilty heart out. He showed no expression and left without saying a word. I convinced myself that he’d be better off with someone else. Someone who would love him even more than I do, and never hurt him the way I did. Someone who believed in transparency.

A week later, my doorbell rang. I opened the door only to find him standing there with a bouquet of flowers. He cupped my face and looked straight into my eyes and said, “I love you with all my heart. I can forgive you if it means I can keep loving you.”

3. Best friends no more

“Hey, what happened to Deepika? Weren’t you guys like best friends in high school?”

“Yes, we were. But you know, stuff went down. Life happened.”

“What do you mean, life happened?”

“Well, Ishan, she fell in love with my boyfriend and they got married. It’s been 15 years since I last spoke to them.”

It has been a long time, you know? Maybe, it was time…

The phone rings. A lovely voice answers.

“Hello? Hello, Deepika? Do you remember me?”

“Of course I do! Our daughter shares your name. We miss you.”

“Deepika, I just called to say that I’m sorry and that I forgive you.”
