Hailey Bieber’s French Nails Are A Masterclass In The Red Nail Theory

Leave it to Hailey Bieber to collaborate the timelessness of a French manicure with the contemporary glazed-donut aesthetic. The result is a loved-up marriage between the two styles that has vowed to supply us with inspiration for the rest of the year. This is also the second time the model has played into the Red Nail Theory narrative — intentionally or not — and it’s giving. Here’s what the mani looked like along with details on recreating the look at home.

The Red Nail Theory Is In Play On French Nails This Time

Zola tipped Hailey’s nails with a blood-red that collaborated gloriously with the model’s dark-lipped aesthetic. The manicure boasted a neutral-toned backdrop that Zola seasoned with a couple of glistening top-coats to do justice to Hailey’s glazed-donut aesthetic. While the nail-art wizard has revealed her tricks in the caption, the process of recreating the manicure is a little low on the DIY-ability scale because of how elaborate it is.

But because many of us don’t share Zola’s talent, you can replicate the aesthetic in a couple of steps without having to deep-dive into her technique. Just lay the groundwork with a clear top-coat before painting your nails a shade of nude or pearly white. Go on to drench the tips in a blood-red shade and conclude by glazing the manicure with a shiny top-coat. That’s the extent of it.

The Red Nail Theory has amassed quite a cult following online. It positions red as seductive and sensual and claims that the colour is a comment on your availability and attractiveness as an individual. Many claim that it appeals to men because they’ve watched their mothers and similar female figures of authority (potentially teachers and celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn) sport the colour back in the day — while they were growing up. This explains why it taps into the ‘male gaze’ — and possibly why you might encounter more men at a club than someone with a neutral-toned manicure.

Again — it’s just a theory, and there are a lot of factors that decide whether someone finds you attractive enough to approach or not. But it’s safe to say that a blood-red mani is eye-catching and bold. Remember that the colour has always been seen as sexy and passionate.

Hailey has previously submitted more than the tips to the shade. This was for the Tiffany & Co. Holiday Campaign where she paired an all-black ensemble with this deliciously-hued pop of colour. The result was an almond-shaped manicure that divorced the model’s loved-up affair with the glazed-donut aesthetic just for a second.

What’s the verdict? Is this look giving?
