A Transgender Woman Might Become Mayor Of Ayodhya & We’re Rooting For Her!

Some days the news just makes your day better. Today happens to be one of those beautiful days. It’s heartening to see so many people from the LGBTQ community come forward and take ownership of their own empowerment and welfare instead of sit around and wait for others to do so. After all, no matter how much the society discriminates between what it considers ‘normal’ and what isn’t the definition of normal, every single person makes up an essential part of the society and giving them equal opportunities only furthers us, collectively!

In the latest news, the Samajwadi Party has declared Gulshan Bindu, a transgender, as the mayoral candidate for the Ayodhya-Faizabad Municipal Corporation, which is one of the three seats going up for polls next month!

This isn’t the first time Gulshan, 47, is contesting elections. She contested the 2012 assembly elections as an independent candidate and stood fourth. She also tried her luck at the Faizabad Nagar Palika’s chairman post and finished a close second to BJP’s Vijay Gupta. This time also she’s competing for one of the most prestigious seats for the ruling BJP.

In an interview with Times of India, Gulshan said “I am thankful to SP National President, Akhilesh Yadav for showing confidence in me. I will give a befitting reply to Yogiji from Ayodhya.”

More power to Gulshan for her courage and fearlessness. We need more people in power belonging to diverse backgrounds!
