Fatima Sana Shaikh On Her MeToo Story: I Don’t Want To Expose That Side Of My Life

Fatima Sana Shaikh made a smashing entry in Bollywood with her stint as Geeta Phogat in Dangal. Her performance garnered not just everyone’s attention but also a lot of appreciation. While the actress was basking in the massive success of the film, she got roped in for another film with Aamir Khan, Thugs Of Hindostan. The much-awaited film was both a critical and commercial failure. In spite of having a phenomenal star cast, the film doomed at the box-office.

In an interview with a daily, Fatima spoke about the disappointment the team faced, for they had shot for the film for over a year. In fact, she didn’t feel like stepping out of her house after the film’s failure. The actress had said, “We were all disturbed, we had worked on the film for a-year-and-a-half. But I still don’t consider it a setback to my career.”

Recently, in an interaction with a media portal, Fatima spoke about the #MeToo movement. She applauded the MeToo movement for providing a voice to victims. She said, “Now sexual predators are scared of being shamed in public and shunned by the industry. For so many years we had normalised assault to such an extent that women had come to accept abuse as something that was normal.”

On being asked if she had ever been a victim of harassment, the actress stated, “I don’t want to expose that side of my life I’m dealing with it, speaking to people I’m close to. Just like I won’t judge those who want to share their horror stories, I expect not to be judged for not sharing mine.”

We do respect her choice of not talking about her experience. She should decide whether she wants to talk about it and when she wants to talk about it. We just hope that she gets justice and the culprits get punished.

On the work front, Fatima has two big films coming up, Anurag Basu’s crime drama with Rajkummar Rao and a horror-comedy with Saif Ali Khan.
