EXCLUSIVE: Aditi Rao Hydari On Her Love For Fashion, Costumes & All Things Handloom

From her long skirt-tank top look in Rockstar to jewel-hued costumes in Kaatru Veliyidai, Aditi Rao’s style evolution is one for the books. Not only has the actress managed to register a Pan Indian presence in cinema in the past decade but she has also established her name as a true blue fashionista. And the actress never disappoints when it comes to Indian silhouettes and desi wear. Staying true to her reputation, Aditi just gave us the most standout bridal look for 2022 with the newly launched Shyamal & Bhumika bridal couture.

We spotted Aditi looking her radiant best at the designers’ Hyderabad store in a glorious blood-red lehenga set. The outfit had our attention for the intricately hand-embroidered floral motifs and traditional aari and vintage gold peeta embroidery. The green dupatta pairing added a fresh touch to the ensemble and its light embroidery provided a tasteful contrast to the heavy blouse. The look was finished off with kundan jewels and minimal makeup.

Shyamal & Bhumika

During the launch event, Aditi spoke to us about the outfit and told us that this happens to be one of her go-to festive looks. We took the opportunity to discuss more on fashion, films, costumes, and family heirlooms and here are the excerpts:

On Her Learnings From The Cannes Red Carpet

“I don’t know if I have learned there. But I went there with the thought that I would not stress out, wear what I feel good in, and be myself. I did exactly that.”

On Films She Loved Doing For The Costumes

“I loved doing Sanjay sir’s Padmaavat. The costumes, the jewellery, and the look— everyhting was exquisite. Also, Mani sir’s Kaatru Veliyidai had lovely costumes. I enjoyed wearing them and also received a lot of compliments.”

On Shyamal & Bhumika’s New Collection

“I like Shyamal & Bhumika’s collection because you can mix and match it. There is a modernity to their motifs. But at the same time, their silhouettes are very feminine and traditional. I like that they bring a playfulness to Indian garments.”

On Her Go-To Festive Look

“My go-to festive look will always include a saree since I am South India. But I do love lehengas and gararas too. It is tough to pick one.”

On Style Hacks She Swears By

“For me, fit is the biggest hack. I don’t know what is in trend and what is not. All I want from a garment is to fit properly and have a proper finish. That, for me, is a true luxury.”

On Handloom Heirlooms She Inherited From Her Family

“My mother, my grandmother, and a lot of people in my family have been wearing handloom and they do it consciously. So there are a lot of things that I love in my mom’s cupboard. But for me, I think the most special would be sarees that my grandfather got woven for my grandmother and mother from weavers back home in Wanaparthy. They are the most special because they were woven specially for my family.”

Well, here’s to Aditi for always giving us gorgeous reel and real desi looks!
