DIY With Dr Kiran: Learn How To Make Your Own Vitamin C Serum & Other Cult Products

When I was a child, I would mix two or more ingredients to make a brand new beauty product. Not much has changed in my late 20s. Whenever I get the time, I use what’s lying around in the kitchen to make DIY face packs, soaps and serums. I find this activity to be therapeutic and quite enjoyable. I understand that making products from scratch may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but there’s no harm in giving it a try, right? With the lockdown still in effect, most of us are running out of skincare stash. Unsure when we’ll be able to stock up again, we can all use this time to seek inspiration from Dr Kiran Sethi of Isya Aesthetics

Her feed on the ‘Gram is flooded with all sorts of wonderful and helpful beauty content. She just started a new series which we absolutely love! It is called ‘How To Make Your Own’. It basically involves learning how to make iconic skincare products at home, using all-natural ingredients!

SK-II Facial Treatment Essence

This beauty brand is loved all over Japan and this product, in particular, is perhaps loved a little more. Each pretty bottle is packed with 90% concentration of an active ingredient called Pietra (a natural probiotic for the skin) This essence must be applied to fresh, clean skin and does a fantastic job at keeping the blemishes, dryness and wrinkles at bay. According to Dr Kiran, here’s how you can make it at home.

And that’s how you make homemade PITERA, this can be used as a toner, hair rinse and face water rinse.

The Ordinary Ascorbyl Tetraisopalmitate Solution 20% in Vitamin F

This cult product is basically a serum that can be used in the day and at night. The key vitamin here is C that does an effective job at preventing premature ageing and brightening the skin tone. Why use this on your skin? Dr Kiran answers, “Vitamin F is essential fatty acids or Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids that help rebuild the skin barrier- making skin healthier, more hydrated, more supple and stronger! Vitamin C is for glow, antioxidant boost, brightening, collagen boosting and anti-pigmentation!”

It’s as simple as that!

Vitamin C Serum

By stimulating the growth of collagen, Vitamin C helps to prevent premature ageing. It helps to brighten and clear out your skin from blemishes. In place of a Vitamin C serum, Dr Kiran suggests using amla juice. Apparently, amla has about 600-700 mg of ascorbic acid. Here’s the recipe

Remember to apply Vitamin C serum in the morning because it neutralizes free radicals during the day.
