Kabhi Thappad Kabhi Saazish: Bizarre Things That Happen In *Every* Hindi TV Serial

After years and years of watching Hindi TV dramas like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kasautii Zindagii Kay, I have learned that every kahani is very dull without masala. The entry of a vamp with a catchy background score, the overdramatic expressions when something bad happens, the loud makeup and even louder actors. But I’ve noticed one more thing: these things happen in EVERY Hindi TV show.

Our sagas are incomplete without all these elements and frankly, I’m watching them because of all this drama and entertainment. So without further adieu, here are the 10 common things that happen in every Hindi Television show and I bet you cannot deny any of these!

1. *Thappad* Thappad* *Thappad*

*Tsch-Tsch-Tsch*(I hope that’s how a slap sounds in words :P)

Hindi TV drama isn’t a Hindi TV drama without the triple slap action. There’s no way you can escape with one slap – it needs to be repeated and shown three times back-to-back. It’s so much better with those sound effects, right?

2. Ghar Ki Buri Bahu!

Whether it’s Komolika from KZK or Maya Mehrotra from Beyhadh, vamps are a must in every Hindi TV drama. Tulsi hi kaafi nahi hai, for the audience. They’re mean, they’re cruel, they’re scary, and they’re always up to something. Even when you think they have changed, they come back with another blow. What a twist!

3. Death, Back To Earth, Plastic Surgery

I never knew the concept of reincarnation existed before I started watching these shows. Now I know if someone dies in a TV soap, then punarjanam (or plastic surgery) will bring them back to life. From Kasam Tere Pyaar Ki to Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam, reincarnation runs in Hindi TV shows.

4. Humari Sanskaari Bahu

There have been times when I’ve literally banged my head against the wall after seeing the bahus in the serials falling for something stupid and dumb. They’re super innocent and super ‘Adarsh Swaad Anusar,’ but come on man, you knew that vamp set you up again. Stop being so forgiving all the time!

5. The Man In Lalaland

Basically, this guy has no idea what’s happening, whether his wife is being tortured by his mother or his family is falling apart. He has no freaking clue – he just shows up for the romantic bit and the ‘I am the hero’ part but apart from that, he’s basically pretty clueless AF! That shocked look on his face when he realises what has been happening is always priceless.

6. Kuch Toh Gadbad Hai!

The sasumaa is always (emphasis on always) suspicious! She is suspicious of situations, people’s intentions, and definitely her daughter-in-law. Anything that concerns her son or her family! And mostly, she’s right.

7. Something Must Be Wrong

Raise your hands if you remember this bit? Diya bhuj gaya toh either your husband is admitted to the hospital, or your son got into an accident. Basically, something really bad happens when the diya extinguishes.

8. Who Is This Man?

I don’t know about you, but I have barely seen the father-in-law play an important role in the dramas. Most of the time, the story revolves around the ‘saas-bahu’ that it totally misses out the father.

9. Ek Hi Mandir!

This is legit! Whether it’s the mandir from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi or Uttaran, their place of worship never changes. It’s always the same, in every damn show!

*Phew* Feel so much better venting all my thoughts I’ve been keeping to myself for years!
