Climate Change Is Real & The World Is Participating In A Strike Against It. Let’s Join In!

One fear that has been constantly haunting the world is that of the threats imposed by severe global climate crisis. From the alarming forest fires in Amazon to the quickly melting ice-caps in Antarctica, the need of the hour lies in fighting this climate change. The Global Climate Strike is one such mega step led by 16-year-old Greta Thunberg. This is the third worldwide series of climate rallies, this time panning across 150 countries (including India) with the aim of having voices to unite & speak about the impending effects of climate change on the planet.

How Is The Globe Involved?

Students are participating in ‘Fridays For Future’ Campaign as a part of the strike where they will abstain from attending schools on Fridays across the globe next week as a mark of protest.
‘I want to live’ is a prominent placard being held in Canberra, where an estimate of over 10,000 school students decided that saving the planet was more important than attending classes. ‘No Planet B’ is the slogan being used by students across the Pacific. “We are not sinking, we are fighting,” said students in the Solomon Islands while rallying on the shoreline as they wore grass skirts and carried wooden shields.

Who Is Greta Thunberg?

Greta Thunberg, a Swedish environmental activist has been credited with raising global awareness regarding the risks posed by alarming climate change. Her slogan is “I am here because our leaders aren’t doing enough”. In August 2018, at 15 years of age, Thunberg held a demonstration outside the Swedish parliament, calling for stronger climate action, voicing her concern through signboards.

India Participates In #ClimateAction

Hundreds of thousands joined the protests across the globe from Australia to Asia Pacific, New Zealand, Thailand and India. Students in the Indian national capital of New Delhi are marching through the city with signs, questioning things like “Where is my right to breathe?” Various pictures have been shared by the non-profit NGO, Greenpeace India. Various states participating in the strike are Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
