Disha Patani Barely Uses Foundation Before Makeup: MUA Séverine Perina On The Actress’ Skincare Secrets

One of the leading actresses of Indian cinema today, Disha Patani has made waves with not only her on-screen appearances but also her fashion and beauty choices that always leave a lasting impression. From her grunge corsets to dainty floral dresses, the 30-year-old Ek Villian Returns actress has won over beauty enthusiasts with her looks. It seems like no look is too experimental for her.

From pigtails to sequins around her eyes, a bob-style haircut to cascading waves — there’s no beauty trend that Disha hasn’t dabbled with, courtesy of her MUA Séverine Perina. In a candid chat with POPxo, Perina – who seems to be the Malang actress’ right hand when it comes to beauty, gives us insight on Disha’s skin, how open she is to experimenting, beauty trends to look forward to for the rest of the year, and so much more. Scroll on for the deets.

A Tete-A-Tete With Disha Patani’s MUA, Séverine Perina

How would you describe Disha’s natural skin? What does she do to keep it looking as good as it does?

Disha’s natural skin is flawless – the closest it can get to baby skin! She has an incredibly healthy lifestyle and therefore it reflects on her skin (lots of water intake, no alcohol, no smoking, lots of sunscreen!)

Would you say Disha is open to experimenting with makeup? Is there something she’s absolutely not willing to try?

Disha has a great knowledge of beauty products overall, she’s always up to try new techniques like makeup application, creating freckles, trying new liner shapes, etc.
Personally, I think anything too bold and heavy won’t suit her vision.

One thing that’s remained consistent is her dewy, glowing skin. Can you tell us a simple step-by-step method on how to achieve it?

For most of the looks that I create with Disha, we barely use any foundation!

For glowing, dewy and hydrated skin don’t miss out on your skincare routine and start layering the products well (toner, eye cream, serums, moisturiser and sunscreen). You can also use a luminous oil on the highest point of your face (cheekbones) to achieve the glow.

Disha set the internet ablaze when she experimented with short hair and red lips. Can you tell us how that came about? Who’s idea was it?

Everything is teamwork! Most of the time, the actress and the stylist decide first, the appropriate outfit for the event that we are working on. Once the outfit is decided I will come up with a few makeup references to suggest to Disha. With the black dress, the idea of red lips came naturally as I really wanted to see Disha in a timelessly elegant look. Red lips and black dress is an all-time classic that will never go old!

When it comes to decking Disha up, does she share her inputs or do you have a free hand?

I always pay attention to how she feels and what she wants to do while creating a look, as well as presenting my own suggestions.

What according to you has been the biggest makeup trend of 2022 so far? And which makeup trend do you see becoming big for the rest of the year?

For me, the statement of the year is definitely a dewy luminous base using a dewy primer or mixing your foundation with a moisturiser. You can also apply a tiny drop of liquid highlighter to your cheekbones.
Looks like the iconic lip makeup trend from the ’90s is already back in the US (see Kylie Jenner’s enhanced bronzed lips and light eye makeup). It basically consists of lining your lips with a darker shade and using a lighter colour to fill in the lips.

Tell us 3 makeup/beauty products you think every girl should own for that perfect skin.

Post 25 years of age, I think a nourishing eye cream is a must. A nice hydrating mist spray with SPF that can be used on top of makeup throughout the day, and a lip balm.

Tell us one makeup tip/hack that you feel will make anybody look good in 2 minutes.

Personally, on a bad day, my concealer and my corrector help me a lot! But to be honest I don’t think there’s a real 2-minute shortcut for flawless glowy skin! Funnily, as a makeup artist, I invest much more money in skincare products than makeup products. So for me, the key is to hydrate your skin from inside and out daily and take the time to find the skincare routine/products that are suitable for you. I believe, there’s only so much makeup can do without a skincare routine on point!

You heard it from the expert herself, skincare comes first! We recommend bagging these for skin that glows from within:
