People Are Now Boycotting ‘Veere Di Wedding’ & The Reason Is Absolutely Absurd!

After the brutal gang-rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Kathua, the nation was in outrage and multiple protests were seen all around the country to encourage the justice. The chargesheet filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Police became public and the details of how she was held captive in a temple for days, drugged and raped numerous times came to public notice. Gruesome things like how one of the accused was called all the way from Meerut to “satisfy his lust” were revealed.

How is all this connected to Sonam‘s Veere Di Wedding? Well, once the horror of a little girl’s experience reached Bollywood, many of them protested and shared pictures of themselves on Instagram with a placard reading, “I am Hindustan. I am Ashamed. #JusticeForOurChild. 8 years old. Gangraped. Murdered. In ‘Devi’-sthaan temple.” Sonam Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Swara Bhasker also joined the silent protest and shared pictures of themselves. This was as a reply to many people defending the accussed because they were “one of them and Hindus” and the victim was a Muslim girl.

Shefali Vaidya, a columnist urged all Hindus who have “any self respect or dignity” to boycott the movies of “placard wala B grade actresses” such as Sonam, Kareena and Swara. The accused in Kathua rape case are Hindus yet many have been trying to protect them. Shefali declared that “It was not justice theyse actors were seeking, it was a vilification of all Hindus!” Soon, the hashtag #BoycottVeereDiWedding started trending.

One Twitter user called them “big time hypocrites who are sad on rape of Muslims but enjoy rape of Hindus.”

A rape victim might come from any religion, the definition and intensity of pain doesn’t change. Every girl who has witnessed evil in the country is a child who deserves justice, be it Asifa or Geeta. No religion teaches us to support people who have committed crimes as hideous as a rape.

The communal card was not played by Sonam, Kareena and Swara, it was groups like the Hindu Ekta Manch which did so, by holding rallies in favour of the accused. According to a report in Rising Kashmir, the leader said, “We don’t want our men to be framed. If such things continue, people will come out on the roads.”

Those stars are just humans and they did as much as they could to portray humanity. It literally has nothing to do with their movies. If not watching a movie could stop rape, we would have happily done it.
