Hair Extensions 101: 10 Things Every Bride-To-Be Needs To Know!

Every bride dreams of having thick and long hair for her D-Day so she can pull off that perfect hairdo she found on the internet. Although there are various natural remedies to grow your hair, there are also some super quick and easy ways to get long, luscious hair for your wedding. Bridal hair extensions will help you add length, volume and texture to your hair. However, before you go in for this quick hair fix, we tell you about the 10 things one needs to keep in mind if you’re planning to use hair extensions on your wedding day.

1. Make sure the colour of your extensions matches your hair colour

You obviously won’t want two different hair colours on you, right? If you have coloured hair, then make sure to find the closest matching hair extensions and if you are not able to find your colour, then get the hair extensions coloured so that they match perfectly.

2. Do your research

As a bride, you need to know the various types of hair extensions available in the market before you make your final choice. There is cuticle remy hair, which comes from the hair shaved off a donor’s head and usually bathed in acid. This is not always good quality. There is also non-remy hair which is made from hair cut off at salons and the cuticles are not in one direction. There is synthetic hair too, which is the ideal choice as it is less expensive and looks gorgeous too.

3. Always pick real hair

Choosing synthetic hair extensions, which is made out of real hair is an ideal choice as they have a longer lifespan and can be styled and coloured as per your choice.

4. Check for varying prices

The starting range for hair extensions is around Rs 10,000 and can go up to anywhere between Rs 40,000-50,000. Since this is going to be a cosmetic investment you are going to make, make sure to do your homework well before the big day arrives.

5. Make sure the cuticles are uniform

Always make sure to check and confirm whether the cuticles are uniform and in the same direction. Having cuticles in one direction helps in colouring, styling and also helps prevent tangling of hair.

6. Style your real hair and extensions together

Once you have made your choice of hair extensions and clipped them on, make sure to style – straighten/ curl – your real hair and extensions together. This will make them blend in and not look artificial at all.

7. Don’t use too many

While you might want really thick and long hair for your wedding functions, don’t forget that everyone does know your real hair length and thickness. So don’t use too many extensions on the wedding day as your hair will end up looking unnatural and you might feel uncomfortable too.

8. Don’t clip them on too close to your scalp

Make sure you leave a gap of 1-2 inches and avoid clipping them on too close to your scalp. Apart from making you uncomfortable, there is also a fear of them slipping off.

9. How to cut hair extensions

Never make the mistake of cutting your extensions just like that. Attach them to your real hair and then have them cut to ensure that they look real.

10. They need to be maintained

Don’t forget your hair extensions once your wedding is over. They require care and need to be maintained for them to be used again. Wash and condition your extensions once a month and make sure you detangle them and allow them to dry completely.
