Take Inspo From These 5 Iconic Y2K Makeup Looks Cause They’re Making A Hell Of A Comeback

As a child, I would gawk at our thick screened TV for hours whenever a Yashraj rom-com aired. My mother would say that I had nothing short of a die-hard obsession with what Bollywood had to offer in a short 2.30 hours. I would constantly daydream about going to college rocking mini-skirts like Tina did in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, along with a straight hair and a side part look inspired from Poo in Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham

As sure as I am that all you late millennial and zillenial divas can totally relate to that, I can wholeheartedly understand the cringe moment when you actually went to college and looked back at the style tips you so fondly kept safe from these 2000s flicks.

Y2K Beauty Trends From Bollywood That Are Making A Coomeback

While these Y2K movies might not have been helpful for beauty and fashion looks in the past decade, we are happy (and sometimes confused) at what the industry brings back from the dead. Today, we are going to look at some 5 beauty looks that crept their way back in 2021.

Sushmita Sen’s Soft Contour In Main Hoon Na

Not everybody is blessed with high cheekbones like Sushmita. However, you can take inspiration from her character Ms. Chandani from the movie Main Hoon Na, where she is seen with subtly contoured cheeks that add a soft dimension and structure to the face. After a year of heavy contouring and highlighting trends, as we switch to skinimalism, warm and light contour techniques are our best friends.

If you want to get the look, you can opt for either a powder or a cream-based contour. However, it will be best if it delivers a matte finish. Instead of harshly lining your natural facial contours, lightly trace your pigment packed brush in a 3-shaped motion starting from the temples of your face to under your cheek bones, and then to your jawline.

Gloss It Up Like Kareena From Kabhi khushi Kabhie Gham

Is any Y2K style inspo list complete without mentioning the honourable Poo from K3G? Probably not. As fashionable as this character was, it also gave major beauty lessons to our pre-teen selves, and still does! Moving on from matte lipsticks, the 2021 lip trend is following the gloss train all the way to juicy lips and shimmery hues.

To get the look, you can either top your trusty matte lip colour with a long-wear gloss or invest in a shimmery gloss with a tint. Do not forget to exfoliate and moisturize your lips before using a gloss or lipstick because the gloss is unforgiving. Trust us, you don’t want to pair chapped lips with this look.

Preity Zinta’s Smokey Eye From Veer Zaara

Be it your emo goth look, or intense eye makeup for a night out, you can definitely take inspiration from Priety Zinta’s character, Zaara from the movie Veer Zaara. Perfect for Indian looks as well, this combination of an intense smokey eye for the upper lid, and a softly smudged look for the lower lid will help you frame your ‘windows to the soul’ and gives them definition.

This look is also perfect for when you want to put your eyes as the centre of attention in your look. To get this look, get a kajal, some brown eyeshadow, and get smudging with your favourite eyeshadow brush.

Rani Mukherji’s Dark Lip Liner From Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega

This particular lip look is making a smashing comeback, and how. As seen on Rani’s character, Pooja Oberoi in the film Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega (and 20 more actresses at that time), lip liners can give your lips a voluptuous appearance.

If you’re feeling crazy, overline your lips a bit for a dramatic effect. Fill in your lips from the same liner around the corners and then top it off with lip colour in a shade lighter.

Aishwarya’s Natural Look In Josh

Aishwarya Rai Bacchan’s look in the movie Josh is now called an upgraded version of the original no-makeup-makeup look. For this look, add a natural blush to your cheeks, the bridge of your nose, and keep your lip hues natural and flushed.

If this isn’t a sign to experiment with your makeup styles, then we don’t know what is. Play around with these makeup looks and find out what works best for you. Good luck!
