Now this is one issue that most of us face. Yes we understand that one can be late once in a while due to certain situations or emergencies, but showing up late at work every now and then is something that is definitely frowned upon. The employer will eventually get weary of your tardiness and might take some action.

Taking too many breaks

It’s okay to step away from your desk every now and then to stretch your legs but if you have a habit of taking too many unnecessary breaks, it’s time to exercise some discipline. It’s unfair to the team members who have to fill in for you while you are out sipping coffee or getting a snack with your colleagues.

Not being a team player

Say goodbye to your career if you simply refuse to be a team player. It is crucial to learn to work with co-workers even if you don’t like them. Remember that the employer is not paying you to like or dislike someone, they want you to get the work done.

Dressing poorly/inappropriately

While many of you must believe that how you look at work doesn’t matter, but let us tell you that there is no excuse for looking sloppy at work. Dressing well for work shows that you are serious towards your work and will also give a good impression to your employer and colleagues.

Your workplace will tend to become a more enjoyable place if everyone focuses on the positives. Your constant complaining about everything will not serve any purpose and will also keep you in a bad mood. It also shows a lack of appreciation for your job.

Attending too many personal calls

Of course, you can’t cut yourself from the outside world while you are in the office but texting too much or taking too many personal calls can completely throw you off track. You will be able to give your 100% if you set aside a specific window for personal calls.

Being dependent on your boss

There are several things that might need your boss’ approval but being completely dependent on him/her might not give a very good impression. Communicating everything to your boss is one way effective way of keeping your performance up to the mark as this will help you build trust. But eventually there will be things which your boss will expect you to handle, and asking for guidance there might not help.

Lying

Misusing expense accounts or or taking credit for someone else’s work will not take you anywhere. Always be truthful to your company, co-workers and yourself.

Distracting others

There’s nothing to say a quick hello if you’re crossing someone’s desk but it’s important to know the fine line between being social and being intrusive. Being too chatty will not only hamper your productivity, but it will also disturb others.

Getting defensive when criticised

You will come across as immature and defensive if you don’t learn to take criticism positively. Just aim to be open-minded about the feedback you get at work. It will help you learn something and grow as a person.
