Athiya’s MUA, Namrata Soni, Gave Me The Breakdown Of Her Bridal Looks

Athiya Shetty and KL Rahul’s wedding was undoubtedly the most glamorous celebrity wedding of January. While her outfits included pretty pastels, bold reds and classic whites, her makeup remained constant.

It was muted, with a second-skin-like dewy finish that complimented every outfit. In conversation with me, Namrata Soni candidly talked about all that went into creating Athiya Shetty’s wedding makeup and even shared a tip for brides-to-be.

Read on!

How long before her wedding did you finalise Athiya’s bridal looks?

It was all decided only a week prior! We did a trial where we created the entire look we wanted for each outfit and finalised them.

What is Athiya’s skin like?

She’s got a gorgeous face and beautiful skin. She’s someone who looks amazing with less and doesn’t need too much makeup. Athiya has extremely dry skin that sucks up moisture. So I used a rich moisturiser and glow products on her skin. You can’t normally use these on other skin types.

Did Athiya have a mood board for her wedding?

Athiya is a fan of pink cheeks and natural lips so we just decided on enhancing her features when we met before the wedding. It was just very easy for me to do her look.

Can you give me a step-by-step breakdown of how you created her mehndi look?

I used a lot of moisturiser with a liquid shine in it and a touch of concealer under her eyes. For her mehndi look, I did a really beautiful bronze eyeshadow with super-curled lashes and mascara. Then, I used a blush which added a natural flush to her skin. And that’s it! You know when people say ‘You’re glowing from within’? That was so true for Athiya! I finished off with a stained, peachy pink lip.

What about her ponytail? It was so refreshing compared to the usual beachy waves or live-in look I’ve been seeing!

Athiya was very sure about a ponytail and that she wanted it to be full of life, wild and beautiful. I didn’t keep it too high or very controlled. I just curled her hair, brushed it out, and back-combed it with a little texture spray for that volume.

You didn’t mention any contour?

If you ever do Athiya’s makeup you’ll realise she never needs contouring. She has such gorgeous high cheekbones. So when I do her makeup, I like to add a little softness. And I do that with a blush. Her skin is lovely, the glow shows anyway.

Since it’s wedding season, can you share the one thing you think brides need to keep in mind when finalising their look?

I think brides today should aspire to enhance their features and not want to look like someone else. Be yourself, not everybody can carry off a no-makeup or a subtle bridal look. Some people have a face suited for dark kohled eyes or a stunning red lip. So don’t do something just because it’s a trend, do it because it’s who you are.

Literally every 3 months there is a new trend. I think classic is the way to go for a bridal look. When you see these pictures 20 years from now, you should want to say ‘I looked like myself and still looked beautiful’. So speak to the makeup artist and discuss what works and what doesn’t.

And what’s it like to deal with brides who don’t know what they want?

A nightmare.

These products will help you achieve that Athiya-level glow:

For the base, the Bobbi Brown Extra Illuminating Moisture Balm will moisturise and add a healthy glow.

The Maybelline New York Instant Age Rewind Concealer will cover up blemishes well.

Sister From Another Mister is the exact shade of blush Namrata Soni used on Athiya’s cheeks.

The MyGlamm LIT Lip & Eye Sparkles in the shade Her Royal Hotness is the perfect bronze eyeshadow.

The Manish Malhotra Masacara in the shade Dark Knight will deliver those ultra-long and jet-black lashes.

The shade Bliss in the POPxo Makeup Collection No Drama Mini Lip Kit will round off the look well.

Brides-to-be, take notes!
