It’s A Meme Fest On Mars: Twitter Gets Creative With Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal Trailer

The trailer of Akshay Kumar’s Mission Mangal released this week and it has all the ingredients of a patriotic, feel-good film. Apart from Akshay, the film has an ensemble cast including Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sharman Joshi and Sonakshi Sinha. The movie is loosely based on the story of scientists at Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) who contributed to the Mars Orbiter Mission. The mission marked India’s first interplanetary expedition.

The 3-minute trailer begins with Akshay Kumar assembling a team of talented scientists to work for ISRO on an impossible mission. He wants to fulfill a nation’s dream of being a space superpower in limited cost and put India on the map of countries that have landed on Mars.

Although many people lauded the trailer for its sheer brilliance, some of the catchy one-liners and funny dialogues started a hilarious meme fest on Twitter. The ones that have inspired the most memes include Akshay Kumar’s “Mujhe abhi tak nahi pata kaise karenge, par karenge sir, karna hi hoga” and Dailp Tahil’s, “The chances of this mission succeeding is less than 1%”.

Sharing her excitement on being a part of the multi-starrer, Vidya Balan said that she is glad that Bollywood is making movies that celebrate India’s achievements: “I think we Indians do not wear our pride on our sleeves (enough) for our country. I am so glad that over the last few years, so many films are being made that make us Indians aware of our achievements. I think it is the first time in my career that I heard the narration and said yes within no time. The script was so good and, of course, Akshay was already on board. I just felt this story needed to be told.”

Jointly produced by R Balki and Akshay Kumar, Mission Mangal is slated to release on 15th August this year.
