Stop Everything Cause We're Showing You How To Reapply Sunscreen Over Your Makeup

how to reapply sunscreen

If you haven't caught on to how important sunscreen is, we've got the scoop for you: just by applying sunscreen, you are cutting your chances of getting skin cancer by half. And once you've made it a part of your daytime routine, the next step to master is reapplication. As you probably know, sunscreen has an SPF factor that indicates how much protection a product provides against UVA and UVB rays. To measure how much time a formula will protect you from the sun, you multiply the SPF factor by 5. For example, if the sunscreen you're using has an SPF of 30, you multiple 30 by 5 and it will protect you for 150 minutes. After this time you will need to reapply sunscreen to remain sun-safe.

If you're someone who wears makeup, how to reapply sunscreen correctly is something that may have baffled you. Using SPF-infused compacts and powders is a good idea but to get adequate protection, you need to use at least 1/4th of a teaspoon of a liquid formula. Using that much powder might be a little too much! So, to cut through the noise, today we're going to learn the correct way to retouch sunscreen throughout the day, from Hannah English. Hannah is a skincare scientist who has a background in pharmaceutical science, so you can say she knows her stuff when she talks about beauty products.

Here's How To Retouch Your Sunscreen In The Correct Way

Step 2: Press, Don't Rub

Take a few drops of sunscreen on your beauty sponge and press it into your skin. Do not rub it in, otherwise, your makeup will smudge and shift. Take your time in dabbing it into your skin and make sure you get in enough SPF (aforementioned 1/4th teaspoon).

Step 3: Time To Reapply Makeup

Your base makeup is already in place and just to give the rest of your look a retouch, go in with your bronzer, contour, or blush and gently blend everything in place. However, make sure you wait for a few minutes after applying sunscreen to let the SPF set in place before going in with your makeup.
