2020 was one hell of a year that made us do everything that we couldn't have imagined otherwise. From exploring our culinary skills, adding masks to our OOTD to regretting all the Goa plans we cancelled in the past, we did it all. And, while talking about the things that we saw, you know the one thing that we enjoyed the most? No, we are not talking about seeing wedding updates on Instagram fosho! We are talking about the wonderful movies and shows we watched this year that truly became our highlight of 2020.
While we are grateful to all the creative minds for keeping us hooked to our screens, there are certainly some actors that deserve a special mention here. These are the actors who made their debut in 2020 and impressed us with their fine performances. Needless to say, we are rooting for these stars and would love to watch more of them in 2021. Who are these rising celebs you ask? Well, scroll down to read about all the performances that kept us hooked this year.
Alaya F marked her debut in Bollywood with Jawani Jaaneman. She played the role of a young daughter to Saif Ali Khan's 40-year-old man-child character and impressed us with her performance. BTW, apart from her acting skills, we have been taking major fashion inspo from Alaya this year because her IG aesthetic is totes killer!
Jitendra Kumar aka Jeetu Bhaiya rose to fame with his roles in web series like Kota Factory and TVF Pitchers. However, the actor made his debut in Bollywood this year. He starred opposite Ayushmann Khurrana in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan as his lover. The actors represented the hardships that the LGBTQ+ community face after coming out, but in a lighthearted manner. Obviously, we loved Jeetu Bhaiya for his unconventional debut and are eagerly waiting for more of his movies in 2021.
Can we declare Rohit Saraf as the national crush? Well, his innocent, chocolate-boy face definitely force us to! Rohit did a few supporting roles in movies like Dear Zindagi and The Sky Is Pink before making his debut as one of the lead actors in Netflix's Ludo. Soon after, he appeared in a lighthearted romantic series called Mismatched opposite Prajakta Koli. From making an impact while sharing screens with renowned actors like Pankaj Tripathi and Abhishek Bachchan to making us go gaga over his romantic dialogues in Mismatched, we are so not getting over this versatile actor anytime soon and demand a lot more of him in 2021.
Sanjana Sanghi's journey in B-town has been full of ups and downs but is nonetheless a remarkable one. The actress marked her debut as a child actress in Rockstar and later appeared in some inconsequential roles in movies like Hindi Medium and Fukrey Returns. However, it was in 2020 when Sanjana made her debut as the lead actress opposite late Sushant Singh Rajput in Dil Bechara. While we cried a thousand tears watching Sushant playing Manny, Sanjana truly won our hearts with her fine performance as Kizie.
Even the author of Fault In Our Stars (the original inspiration behind Dil Bechara), John Green, praised Sanjana for her convincing performance.
We all have different opinions about the Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives but we all have an opinion nonetheless. Which means, we all binge-watched the show and added it to our list of 'guilty pleasures'. We don't know about you but we certainly couldn't miss the fact that series left no stone unturned to promote the up and coming actress, Shanaya Kapoor. She made her debut at the infamous Le Ball Paris. And now she is all set to make her mainstream debut in B-Town next year. We are waiting, Shanaya.
If we say that Isha Talwar had appeared in movies like Kaalakaandi and Tubelight, then you'd say 'wait, what, when?' And, that's because her roles were quite trivial and easily forgettable. However, her breakthrough performance was in the hit OTT series Mirzapur 2, where she played the role of Madhuri Yadav, Munna Bhaiya's wife. Now that we have seen her acting prowess, we can't wait to watch her in Mirzapur 3 seeking the revenge she deserves.
Tripti Dimri rose to prominence with her powerful performance in Bulbul. Her feminist character not only left the audience mighty impressed but also left us wanting for more. Hopefully, we will see her soon in Bulbul 2.
The OTT platform gave us one of the most successful shows of 2020--Scam 1992. From the catchy background music to a realistic storyline, Scam marked a perfect rundown to an interesting year and honestly, we couldn't have asked for anything better. However, what made the show truly phenomenal was the character of Harshad Mehta aka Pratik Gandhi. Needless to say, we are already a fan and cannot wait to see him on the big screen soon.
Masaba Gupta is definitely one of the most stylish celebs in B-Town and we are absolutely in love with her label House of Masaba. But, we bet you guys didn't know that she's such a fine actress too. Frankly, can we expect anything else from the daughter of the supremely talented actress, Neena Gupta?
Masaba Masaba revolved around the life of Neena and Masaba Gupta and honestly, we loved every single minute of the show. Can we get season 2 soon?
Prajakta Koli aka Mostly Sane made us all laugh with her comedy videos on YouTube. And now, it's time that we root for one of our fav YouTubers as she is all set to make her debut in Jug Jugg Jeeyo alongside Varun Dhawan in 2021. But hey, you don't need to wait that long to watch her acting skills. Just stream Mismatched on Netflix and watch the diva deliver a fine performance opposite Rohit Saraf. Excited? We bet you are!
We hope we get to see a lot more of these talented celebrities in 2021 because we all have survived 2020 and itna toh banta hai!
