The Right Way To Take Care Of Your Skin During The Covid-19 Outbreak

Working from home gives you the luxury of working in your pyjamas, going makeup-free and helping you save lots of moolah! While most of us women are used to wearing makeup on a daily basis to work, this lockdown period gives our skin some time to breathe. However, for some women who suddenly stop wearing makeup can experience something called ‘skin purge’ Why does this happen? It’s your skin’s way of healing. Not everyone will experience breakouts, but for those who do, they need to understand that this is completely normal. Allow your skin to heal and don’t make the mistake of applying makeup to fix it.

The Right Way To Take Care Of Your Skin During The Covid-19 Outbreak

Here’s what your skincare routine should look like during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

Be Proud of Going Bare

Many women use concealers and foundations to hide their imperfections. Use this time at home to build confidence and accept your skin for what it is and what it looks like. Liquid foundations, silicone primers, thick moisturisers, have it in them to clog your pores. This leads to breakouts and a dull complexion. What you can do for now is stay away from them and leave your skin as it is.

Wash Your Face Twice A Day

Just because you’re at home and don’t have anywhere to go, it does not mean that you neglect your skin. The first you should be doing in the morning and the last thing you should be doing at night is washing your face with a mild cleanser. This helps to remove all the dust, sweat and grime that settles on your skin’s surface while staying indoors.

Exfoliate Once A Week

Exfoliation is important and should be done once a week without fail. When you exfoliate, you are able to remove dead skin cells, even out your skin tone, increase cell turnover, boost collagen production and keep the acne at bay. Use a face scrub to get the job done and if you don’t have one, make one at home with natural ingredients. Here’s a quick DIY recipe I’d like to share with you. For brighter skin, use one apple. one orange and 2 carrots to make some juice. After straining the juice, do not throw the pulp away. Put it on your face and use your fingers to massage the pack in circular motions. Wash it off after 20 minutes with lukewarm water.

Don’t Forget To Wear Sunscreen

So what if you’re not commuting to work every day? That’s no excuse for skipping sunscreen. UV rays can penetrate through your glass window and blue light through your computer and phone screen can damage your skin and cause premature ageing. Hence, it’s important to wear sunscreen even when you’re staying indoors.

Get Your Beauty Rest

Since you aren’t going to go pub hopping anytime soon, you might as well make some serious changes to your lifestyle – like sleeping at 10 pm every night. The more you sleep, the more time you give your skin and cells to repair themselves. While you’re at it, make sure that you’re eating healthy and drinking lots of water to keep your immunity strong and your body hydrated.
