Alia Bhatt has been on an overdrive promoting her upcoming passion project, Raazi. To match the vibe of the film, she has been stepping out in pretty Indian looks, suits and anarkalis being her top pick for the events. The outfits are uber feminine and suited for a young woman in love with ethnic wear, very much like Alia herself is!
But what do you do when you have had too much of designer wear and want to do something special for the screening of your beloved movie? You turn to your trusted masterji of course! For the first screening of Raazi, Alia turned up in a hand-stitched number and announced her undying devotion to beautiful flowy anarkalis.
In conversation with Alia’s stylist Ami Patel we tried to dig up the story behind Alia’s adorable pineapple printed anarkali and boy are we glad we did it! Turns out the anarkali you see on Alia is not a designer label or from a big fancy brand, but the product of a fabric shopping spree that Ami Patel is often on. The fashionable stylist who usually scouts local markets for inspiration brought the mulmul cotton fabric from Kolkata and had it stored for opportunities just like this.
To better suit Alia’s love to minimalist and quirky sense of personal style, Ami decided the pineapple printed fabric will be perfect for her. The tropical print combined with a light coral hue is unusual for an anarkali, thus making it stand out. She lined it with lace to keep it simple but stylish and added a matching sheer dupatta off the rack to complete the look. The look is so unapologetically Alia that we can’t help but admire her move to ditch the label wagon and take the desi girl DIY route out to dressing up for a special evening.
Give your friendly neighbourhood masterji a long overdue visit for your summer ethnic needs. Make it like Alia and turn affordable comfortable fabrics into the chicest suits and anarkalis. Yes, we know its an extra effort but how else are you going to put your unique fashion sensibilities in your everyday style. We have an assortment of fabrics right here for you to chose from, take a look!
