It’s Promise Day! Let’s Vow To NOT Break These Beauty Commandments, Shall We?

Let today be all about making promises. Whether it’s to do with looking after your locks, or following a new skincare routine, always back it up with love and consistency. While promises are hard to keep, most of us land up breaking them anyway. That’s where we come into the picture! Our guide isn’t about lecturing you to change your ways, but to alert you about possible gaffs you may be making and how to work on these. Here are 8 beauty promises we make, but always end up breaking.

Promise 1: Remove your make-up at the end of the day.

How often have you come home from work or a party and jumped straight into bed without removing your make-up? Guilty? We all are! Not cleansing your face from make-up residue can clog your pores and result in breakouts. You need to break this beauty habit soon. Make it a point to either use a make-up remover or an oil-based cleanser to keep your pores squeaky clean. It’s never too late to change your ways, we say!

Promise 2: Applying sunscreen each time you step out.

We swore to use sunscreen regularly, but how often does that actually happen? Most likely not very often. Finding an SPF that agrees with your skin should be your first step to a building a proper skincare routine. Don’t just pick any sunscreen product from the shelf just because it has a fancy description or packaging, do your research by reading up on the product and looping in your dermatologist. They’ll be able to give you more clarity and information about the right sunscreen product to invest in.

Promise 3: Using a cleanser according to your skin type.

Skin types are majorly categorised into four types – dry, oily, combination and sensitive. Not knowing about your skin type before using a cleanser can do more harm than good. Using the wrong products can easily damage skin by drying it out and causing acne. Unless you don’t want to deal with rashes and inflamed skin, we suggest that you find out what your skin type is first!

Promise 4: Sticking to just minimal beauty products.

With so many products available in the market, it’s hard to stay loyal to only a few. Most of us land up buying more make-up and using product after product on our face. This by no means is a healthy beauty habit. Some products contain chemicals, parabens and preservatives that damage the skin in the long run. You’ve got to nip things in the bud before it’s too late. Hence, we encourage moderate use of these beauty products.

Promise 5: Not picking at your face when you get the chance.

Most of the times we touch our face, we aren’t too conscious of our actions. That’s where we mess up! Our palms and fingertips have bacteria on them because we’re constantly making contact with our phones, laptops, desks…(Yep, you get the gist). Touching your face without washing your hands can spread the bacteria on your face. This could irritate the skin and lead to rashes and acne.

Promise 6: Drinking enough water every day.

We’re young, we’re free and we prefer sipping on cocktails instead of bland water. Take it from us, all alcoholic beverages dry skin out and leave it feeling dehydrated and dull after every peg. This is when water comes to your rescue like your knight in shining armour. Water flushes out toxins, improves blood circulation and improves skin’s texture. Hence it’s important to drink enough water during the day.

Promise 7: Moisturizing your skin as often as you can.

When skin is dry, it begins to crack and itch. This is why you need to have a good moisturiser by your side. Metaphorically, the cream acts like cement and fills in all the cracks like a pro. Plus, it keeps your skin moist, soft and supple each time you moisturise. One of the best times to apply this cream is when you’ve stepped out of a warm shower. Pat your skin dry and gently apply the cream all over your skin. Your hands, legs and face will instantly start to feel a lot smoother.

Promise 8: Using a hair serum before styling your mane.

While you’re taking care of your skin, don’t neglect your locks. Exposing them to heat and styling tools without coating your strands with serum can cause some serious damage to your poor mane. Apply serum to your hair as it acts like a protective layer against heat, dust and other hair product chemicals. All the best!
