Neck Creams: The Real Deal Or A Marketing Gimmick?

Neck Creams: The Real Deal Or A Marketing Gimmick?

My skincare routine already has around six to ten steps on a good day. Most of these are high-performance, no-bullshit products that I’ve added after a lot of tedious research and dermatologist visits. But recently I stumbled upon a new type of cream, well new for me, namely – neck creams.

While I know most of us tend to neglect our necks, I thought it was enough to pull your skincare down to the neck. Apparently not! Today we’ll be doing a deep dive into neck creams – what they are and are they actually worth the splurge?

What Is A Neck Cream?

As the name suggests, a neck cream is a skincare product designed with your neck’s unique needs in mind; they are formulated to be much heavier than a face moisturiser and usually sport hydration or anti-ageing properties. These creams are formulated with high-performance ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, retinol, lipids, and Vitamin C; they aim to tighten, firm, and hydrate your skin over time to prevent sagging, wrinkles, and dark spots.

Who Should Be Using It?

It is a general fact that the skin on your neck is much thinner and prone to ageing than the rest of your skin. It’s an area where age shows first which means as time goes by, you’re likely to see sagging, wrinkles, and dark spots in an area that was previously pristine. As someone in her early 20s, buying a cream just for my neck seems too exorbitant. I don’t make that kind of money and if a neck cream was as powerful as the marketing makes it out to be, I should probably replace my skincare routine with them – right? Right.

But if you are seeing visible signs of ageing on your neck, it does not hurt to try. Now, will slathering on a neck cream hoist up your sagging skin like a well-oiled pulley system? Probably not. For a neck that defies gravity, your best bet is still a visit to the doctor. But that doesn’t mean neck creams are without merit. When used correctly – think gentle, upward strokes – they can indeed make a difference, no matter how subtle it is.

A Few Neck Creams That People Seem To Really Love

Like I said, the skin on your neck is extremely thin so using harsh acids might cause it to react negatively. Below is a list that has a few crowd-loved neck creams plus a few specific ingredients that will work well to keep your skin looking young and well, as fresh as possible!

The Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Anti-Aging Face and Neck Cream offers a triple threat against aging: wrinkle reduction, even skin tone, and smoother texture. Its formula boasts PhytoMimetic Vitamin A, chaga mushroom, and hyaluronic acid, designed specifically for both face and neck.

The RAS Luxury Oils Renergie Advanced Triple-Action Neck & Decollete Cream blends retinol, peptides, and olive squalane. It combats aging and daily stress impacts by restoring your skin’s biomechanical properties, resulting in a rejuvenated appearance.

Another crowd favourite is the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Perfect Lift And Firm Night Cream formulated with ceramides, which claims to boost youthfulness overnight. The cream also promises a strengthened, smoother, and lifted look by morning, supporting the skin’s natural barrier and reducing the visibility of lines and wrinkles.

The Clarins Extra Firming Neck Cream is a neck and décolleté cream that instantly firms, smooths, and lifts, thanks to its sunflower extract firming complex. It targets wrinkles, skin slackening, and age spots while also providing hydration and protection against pollution.

The Chemist at Play Neck, Knee, Elbow Brightening Roll On works to brighten and reduce pigmentation while enhancing Vitamin your skin tone, and ensuring deep hydration. The addition of lactic and mandelic acids gently exfoliate, making it suitable for all skin types and promising improved texture with regular use.

In conclusion, neck creams are not the miracle workers they’re made out to be. But useless? Far from it. Like any good indulgent skincare product, they have their place. Whether or not that place is in your skincare routine depends on your needs, your skin, and perhaps your willingness to experiment (spend)!
