As much as we rue the current pandemic, there is indeed something that we are really thankful for–the rise of the minimal bride! Not only do we admire the spirit of the pandemic bride but currently are also falling for her aesthetics real hard. She is suave, she is classy, and she knows how to turn a challenge into an opportunity. Featured below are our five favourite lockdown brides and all the minimal bridal inspiration that we have taken from them:
Megha Khanna: The Heirloom Bride
A designer herself, Megha Khanna had to put her bespoke red matka silk lehenga on hold mid-production owing to the pandemic. With everything else absolutely DIY at her wedding, Megha decided to go the heirloom way to make up for the disappointment. Going for something emotionally significant, she thus decided to wear her mother’s heirloom zardozi work tissue sari. She completed the look with a pearl and navratna choker which again was an heirloom piece from the family.
Fully embracing the intimate wedding vibe, Megha kept the rest of her look absolutely simple with minimal henna and clean-swept chignon sans any head accessories.
Our Takeaway: We are totally crushing over Megha’s fuzz-free saree look which can easily be recreated by picking a statement saree from your trousseau or even your mom’s cupboard. We are also digging the muted gold organza, zardozi and aari accents that play together to exude an understated regal vibe. Also, brownie points for the clean hairdo and just-a-hint-of-henna hands. We’d have to give it to Megha for being sport enough to try subtly smoky eyes with that minimal look!
Neha: The DIY Bride
Ever thought of onion pink as a bridal hue? Lockdown bride Neha did and also managed to do a pretty striking job with it! Letting go of her dream of a big fat wedding, Neha happily embraced the pandemic bride avataar as she vowed to marry the love of her life Lakshay in an intimate wedding. ‘We might not have the wedding we have desired and planned for but we definitely want to start our marriage that we have prayed for,’ she decided and then went on designing her wedding outfit from scratch. Yes, she designed her own wedding dress sans any elaborate adornments or handwork. She went to a textile shop, picked a fabric of her choice, and found a masterji to put all of that together.
Our Takeaway: From the elaborate jaalwork of her dupatta, to the idea of pairing her lehenga with a kurti instead of a blouse, we love every single detail of this bespoke attire. However, it is the onion pink hue beautifully accentuated by the dull gold sequins and the solid gold lace that we love the most.
Vanshika Chhabra: The Radiant Bride
The radiant lockdown bride Vanshika Chhabra broke the internet and won our heart with her peach lehenga and flushed face. Keeping it fuss-free, Vanshika completed her look with a traditional gold choker and a delicate nath.
Our Takeaway: We especially love the juicy albeit understated peach hue of the lehenga that has been adorned with scattered zardozi work that takes away the OTT element from the look. We are also crushing hard for the pearl passa and this bride’s flushed glow.
Dhwani: The Minimal Chic Bride
Coming super close to the Indian rendition of a white bride, Dhwani had us mesmerised with her minimal albeit cindrellaesque lehenga. Adorned in thread embroidery instead of the regular cut daana-zardozi work, this is a versatile outfit that’ll surely come in handy even after her wedding.
Our Takeaway: The styling details of Dhwani’s outfit are to die for. We especially love the pastel dual dupattas and how the muted yellow and baby pink come together to create a sunset ombre effect. The pearl accents of her pink dupatta are equally dreamy. But wait till you notice, how the bride chooses a warm lipstick instead of a pastel/nude hue to compliment her look. Also, the generous blush is to die for! Dhwani has really given us a dream lockdown bridal look with the powerful styling elements in her look.

Harkiran Basra: The Quintessential White Bride
If you happen to be one of those people who have been forever torn between a generously flounced white gown and a lehenga to pin down your wedding look then designer Harkiran Basra’s wedding attire is just what you need for the perfect inspiration. This indeed looks like an attire made in heaven!
Our Takeaway: The French lace-like quality of Harkiran’s lehenga and the veil-like appeal of her statement dupatta is what we are falling hard for in this look. From the pearl accents of her jewelry to the seashell kaliras everything here is simply breathtaking. We simply can’t get over how the bride/designer has managed to bring an Indianised white bride to life. So spot on, so beautiful!
