So you have been in a relationship with him for quite some time now. And, like every other couple in the world, you occasionally have the ‘Are we going to last forever?’ thought. So, here are 10 relationship milestones that if you cross, mean that you both are most probably each other’s happily ever after!
1. When your honeymoon period ends and things begin to get too real.
Because the first year is all about gifts and lots of lovey-dovey, cuchi-coo stuff. The real deal begins once you are past this phase. When you start spotting the flaws in each other and realize that you may not be as perfect as you thought. But if you can come to terms with each other’s flaws and even begin to get attached and like them a bit, you will sail through the storms.
2. When you have your first big fight and get over it without holding any grudges.
You both will not always have the same opinions. It’s okay to have the occasional argument or even a little bickering but you both have to learn to agree to disagree. If you can do so gracefully without holding a grudge, you have successfully reached another important milestone.
3. When someone else makes a move on your partner and you learn to handle it without losing your sanity!
It’s okay to get a little jealous and feel protective towards your man and vice versa. But if someone approaches your guy and you are able to deal with your emotions (and with the person, if need be) with dignity and grace then there is nothing that can reaffirm the fact that you guys are meant to be more.
4. When you realize and accept that you may sometimes need to put in more than your share of 50% in the relationship.
Sometimes, you need to give more than your share into a relationship. When your partner is down you need to hold the fort and be strong for him too. If you can do this without cribbing or complaining, you have truly grown up and are holding on tight to this relationship.
5. When you can articulate to your partner exactly what you want in bed without feeling shy or weird about it.
Because sex is important too. If you can tell him how and what you like in bed without feeling weird, it means that you truly trust him and are not afraid to ask for something you really want. This is a great sign, ladies!
6. When you stay apart and yet stay strong.
You may have to be in a long distance relationship at some point. Although it’s okay to miss him, you should both be able to live apart and be happy in your own space too. An occasional pang of sadness is fine but you should be able to lift each other up and be strong about it. This means you’re stranger than the distance between you!
7. When you are tempted to ‘explore other options’ but you decide not to because you really love your partner.
We are all human and temptation is something that we are all faced with. This happens a lot with couples who have been in a relationship for a very long time. Sometimes other people seem more attractive or you regret not playing the field enough before settling for ‘the one’. If you can shake off this feeling and know, deep down in your heart, that your guy is your forever kind of love, you are definitely in this for the long haul.
8. When you travel together and manage to NOT get on each other’s nerves…
Sounds like a petty thing? It’s really not. Travelling with him opens up so many new avenues for quarrel. You get to know much more about your partner than you did before. If you can enjoy your travels with him, without having ginormous fights over every little thing, you are certainly on the right track.
9. When you are able to appreciate the time you spend with each other without going to a fancy restaurant.
You don’t always need to be at a fancy cafe or a bar or anything. When you eventually learn to appreciate his company even if that means sitting in your PJs watching rom-coms, is when you have achieved another major milestone in your relationship…
10. When you are no longer looking for a perfect fairytale!
Because you finally realize that no one is perfect… Not him and not you. And truthfully speaking, you do not want anything to be perfect anymore. You realize that your imperfections and differences are what make life fun. That’s when you know you both have really made it!
