Anne Hathaway Has Us Convinced That The Goth Look Is Back!

Iconic in their own right, Anne Hathaway’s playful fits and makeup are Gen Z-approved. Most recently, the star was spotted on the cover of Vanity Fair; sporting a faux pixie and the most gorgeous black vampy lips I have ever seen. With no hint of a gloss, the lips were the star of the look.

Paired with a smoky eye with hints of brown and brushed-out browns, her temptress look was created by long-time makeup artist, Gucci Westman. Honestly, her dark lips are convincing me to go back to my goth phase, and here’s how I’m recreating it for myself.

How To Get Anne Hathaway’s Temptress Lips

Step 1: Start with a clean, exfoliated base. I recommend using Honey Potion Plus Ceramide Moisture Mask beforehand to remove all the dead skin cells and add a boost of hydration before you go in with any product!

Step 2: Pick out a dark lip liner. Something that walks the fine line between burgundy and dark brown (yes, they’re different). One option is the Nykaa Lips Don’t Lie Liner in Date Night 16 which is super budget-friendly or the Manish Malhotra Beauty Lip Liner & Filler in Red Ruse.

Step 3: Add a similar burgundy liquid lipstick to the edges of your lips, make sure to leave the centre bare. The Insight Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in the shade V9 Dark Chocolate is a good pick but if you’re not a fan of liquid lipsticks, you can try the M.A.C Matte Lipstick in Diva.

Step 4: Next, fill up the centre with a dark black lipstick and purse your lips to mix the shades together. An easy, affordable option is the Bonjour Paris Lipstick in Metallic Ash Black. If you’re using liquid lipstick, you’ll have to work quickly to make sure everything blends seamlessly before it dries.

Step 5 (optional): Follow with a red gloss like Rom&nd Juicy Lasting Tint in either Dark Coconut. It will work to blend your base lipstick and give your lips a juicy, sultry look.

Emulating Hathaway’s look doesn’t require the arsenal of a professional makeup artist or an extravagant budget. You can always interchange these products with other similar shades from brands you already own and honestly, it’s much more about the technique than the exact products you use. Don’t let the dollar signs in front of the lipsticks stop you from unleashing your bad bitch!
