Punjabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh’s songs become the life of parties, but they are always called out for misogynistic, distasteful lyrics. Sure, Honey Singh has amassed a huge fan following with his music and rap, but the objectification of women in his songs refuses to die down.
The singer, after being out of action for almost a year, released his single Makhna in December last year. His comeback garnered a lot of attention from fans and the song became an instant hit. But to our dismay, the song has some really appalling and absurd lyrics. Guess the apparent ‘break’ he took was not to reflect on his work. Nothing has changed. In fact, it’s only got worse.
Manisha Gulati, Chairperson of the Punjab State Women Commission, has written to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home, Punjab DGP and IG Crime, Punjab, recommending action against the singer for objectionable lyrics.
In her application, Gulati has written, “A legal action and an inquiry are required to be initiated by the police on the matter as the song readied by T-Series chairman Bhushan Kumar and singers Honey Singh and Neha Kakkar uses vulgar words against women.”
She demanded that the song be banned and raised objections against the Censor Board. Gulati will meet the State Government officials to get the song banned at least in Punjab.
Not just the song, but the video also is very inappropriate.
Of course, this isn’t the first time someone has spoken up about Honey Singh’s lyrics.
Here are some more Honey Singh songs that have awful lyrics.
1. Blue Eyes
Champagne ger di hai tune meri pant pe
Kehti hai change karlo hotel leke rent pe
Why would anyone do this? Guess it’s just his yo-yo-ing imagination.
Back in December 2012, rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh was slammed for vulgar and offensive lyrics demeaning women in the song, Volume 1. I bet you know why I am not naming the full song. Don’t Google it, or you’ll be horrified, too.
It’s time guys, we really need to stop promoting his crappy songs!
