This Couple Had A Unique Flower Shower Mehendi & The Details Will Blow Your Mind

With a limited number of guests and postponed wedding festivities, 2020 ended up being quite a heartbreak of a year for a lot of couples. And while many went on with their intimate ceremonies, some decided to wait for the right time and a big fat Indian wedding. Celebrity stylist and lifestyle blogger Sonam surely belongs to the latter category and is currently preparing to marry the love of her life in one of the most unique wedding ceremonies ever.

Now here’s the catch: while Sonam and her finance, Neil Sanghvi are yet to finalise a date for their destination wedding, they have already kicked off the festivities with a grand mehendi ceremony. As it turns out, amid the constantly-changing COVID-19 protocol and the pandemic threat, the two got tired of all the waiting. Thus, they decided to start the festivities months in advance and we are so glad that they did!

Here’s everything that we are loving about their unique mehendi ceremony:

The Breathtaking Decor!

“When life gives you lemons, use it as decor,” says Sonam and applied the exact same to her mehendi decor. While planning the function, she started with the idea of a flower shower mehendi. The function was to take place at their Khandala house and the vision was to transform the space with the use of floral accents and colour. Sonam and Neil’s wedding was originally supposed to happen in Bodrum, Turkey and they really wanted the same vibe for their mehendi ceremony.

Celebrity planner Devika Narain came to their rescue and helped Sonam conceptualise the off-beat decor. As Sonam shares, “When I started planning my flower shower/mehendi I knew I wanted something out of the box and not the usual marigolds, while I still wanted that warm yellow hue… With over 5000 lemons used to build our lemon orchards, our holiday home turned into the warmest happy space I could’ve only dreamt of.”

The lemons became a very sustainable choice for the decor as well. “Lemons are a fabulous, sustainable decor option because they can be reused, post the event we sent out baskets of lemons used to family and friends and the rest to an NGO to make pickles,” shares Sonam.

The Gorgeous Outfits

Instagram

Given that you need to sit still at a spot for hours to get your wedding mehendi, it only sounds logical that you opt for something really comfy to wear, right? Now, just in case you might be wondering how comfy is too comfy, Sonam is the person to take some serious inspiration from.

Choosing wisely, she opted for a Dolce & Gabbana midi dress to sit comfortably through her mehendi ceremony. Along with the signature Dolce & Gabbana roses, the dress featured ruched detailing on the waist and shoulders. And it can easily be called one of the breeziest mehendi outfits to ever exist. Seriously!

She finished off the look with a floral headband, scattered baby’s breath in the hair, and gold jhumkas. Wellthere is no way we are not bookmarking this look!

However, for the post-mehendi festivities, she amped up the outfit game and slipped into a maroon Sabyasachi lehenga. The khadi lehenga was embellished with marodi accents and was paired with a bold blouse featuring a plunging neckline. She completed the look with an OTT jewel set by Sunita Shekhawat.

Also, a special shoutout to the groom to bring those “flowers” to the ‘flower shower’ event with his sherwani!
