Desi Tadka: Twitterati Share Indian Versions Of Common English Words & We're In Splits

We're over six months into a global pandemic, and it seems like there's finally some light at the end of the tunnel. On July 20, medical journal Lancet reported that the human trial of COVID-19 vaccine conducted by the University of Oxford has prompted a protective immune response in hundreds of people who got the shot. However, the vaccine still has a while to go before it is available to the masses.

While staying at home is our best bet to keep ourselves safe for now, let’s admit that the self-isolation is stressful. But Twitterati seems to clearly know how to make the most of the extra time on their hands. From #MyQuarantineInSixWords to #QuarantineSnacks and #QuarantineAMovie, Twitter’s meme game has been on point during these isolation days. And now, they have come up with another thing that Indians are really good at. And that is, Indianising anything!

From our desi version of Chinese food or the sasta copies of the branded clothes, we Indians are best at adding that magical desi touch to almost anything. And TBH, our special versions of some of the English words are even better and more hilarious. Be it ‘pizza’ becoming ‘peejaa’ or ‘biscuit’ becoming ‘biskoot’, the desi twist to the pronunciation of these words is relatable AF.
