Known as one of the most glamourous professions, the female cabin crew’s rule-book is going through a makeover and we couldn’t be happier. While flying to exotic destinations every other day, looking coiffed all day long and wearing a smile along with formals look like a perfect job but for an air hostess, there are plenty of downsides. From poor sleep patterns to unthankful passengers, everything comes along with this promise of daily travel. And the crew bears it all while looking unbelievably beautiful.
While adding to the good books of evolution, Virgin Atlantic has decided to change the way we look at and think of air hostesses. The airline has declared that its female cabin crew is no longer bound to wear makeup onboard. The air hostesses can also choose to wear pants instead of skirts as per their convenience. Now, won’t that make the life of all the beautiful and passionate girls much easier?!
Since its first flight in 1984, the airline has always taken an initiative to make an impact. Virgin Atlantic has made this decision based on staff feedback.
In a statement, the executive vice president of Virgin Atlantic, Mark Anderson said, “We want our uniform to truly reflect who we are as individuals while maintaining that famous Virgin Atlantic style, we have been listening to the views of our people and as a result have announced some changes to our styling and grooming policy that support this and provide the staff with more choice on how they want to express themselves at work. Helping people to be themselves is core to our desire to be the most loved travel company.”
This decision of the airline might start a major trend in the aviation industry as it’s a first of its kind. Considering that crew members are given a ‘how to apply makeup’ guide, this is a big step. Emirates allegedly has a seven-step makeup guide. Earlier, British Airways had made it mandatory for the crew members to at least wear blush and lipstick along with having groomed eyebrows at all times. The air hostesses were allowed to wear pants while serving guests in 2016.
This change is relieving and women, be it of any field must have a right to choose their outfits as per their comfort. We’ve heard uncountable stories about unruly passengers misbehaving with the female cabin crew and this might just be a beginning to end that.
