Don’t Let The Humidity Rain On Your Parade: The Importance of Exfoliating During Monsoons

During the monsoon, the humidity in the air can wreak havoc on our skin. The moment our skin loses moisture, it starts to get itchy, rough and dry. It’s during these very moments when our skin deserves our 100% attention–and the classic CTM routine won’t cut it. We need to include exfoliation as a separate and necessary skincare step.

Why exfoliation, you ask? You’re about to find out!

The Importance of Exfoliation During The Monsoons

After all, skincare is self-care!

1. It Keeps The Bacteria At Bay

You can’t see it with the naked eye, but rainwater contains thousands of bacteria, germs, chemicals and pollutants. If rainwater comes in contact with your skin, it can cause irritation and inflammation. The act of exfoliating buffs away the layer of dead skin where the bacteria lies. Post exfoliating, always remember to apply body lotion to keep your skin supple and smooth.

2. Helps Your Skin Breathe Better

During monsoons, you sweat less. Dirt, bacteria and sebum collect on the skin’s surface and clog the pores. When that happens, expect blackheads and breakouts to follow. Regular exfoliation will help to unclog the pores and keep them squeaky clean. If you don’t want to use an exfoliating scrub, you can use a dry-brush. Dry-brushing improves blood circulation and helps in lymphatic drainage too.

3. Cheers To Fresh, Bright Skin!

When dead skin cells accumulate on the skin’s surface, the skin starts to look dull and oily. Regular exfoliation helps skin to stay fresh, youthful and bright. If you don’t have an exfoliating product at home, you can make one from scratch. Mix 1 cup of olive oil, 1/2 cup of sugar and drizzle a tsp of honey all over it. Apply all over your hands and legs in circular motions and wash the scrub off with lukewarm water. Your skin is bound to look and feel cleaner.

4. Ingrown Hair Be Gone!

We tend to spot more ingrown hair during the monsoons due to dead skin buildup. Exfoliating helps to scrub off dead skin and lifts the hair away from the skin. This also helps for a smoother shave.

5. For A More Uniform Skin tone

Did you know that regular exfoliation helps to stimulate the production of new skin cells? Yes, it’s pretty amazing! The new skin complexion is brighter and appears more evened out. However, while exfoliating, make sure that you’re gentle as you don’t want to trigger inflamed skin.

But remember ladies, too much of something isn’t a good thing. The same rule applies to exfoliating every day. Once or twice a week is more than enough.
