Taapsee Pannu, who started her career in the Telugu and Tamil film industries, soon gained popularity in Bollywood with her powerful performances. In 2018, she had four releases, including Dil Junglee, Soorma, Mulk and the critically acclaimed Manmarziyaan. Taapsee's journey has been off to an incredible start.
However, things might be getting tough for the Pink actor in Bollywood. Recently, she was dropped from the remake of Bollywood classic Pati, Patni Aur Woh, without being informed about it. Strange, isn't it?
The Judwaa 2 actor was not given a reason for it. In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Taapsee said she was narrated the script in November 2018 and had even agreed to work on it, instantly. However, she was stunned to learn that she was dropped from the film at the last minute, without any intimation from the filmmakers.
Taapsee was quoted saying, "I was at the narration in November, in the presence of Juno and Abhay (producer). I liked the script and gave it a go-ahead. I was asked to clear my schedule and I compiled. Only the clauses remained to be negotiated. But suddenly, they vanished."
When asked for her opinion on this abrupt end to the project, she said, "Poor Mudassir (director) also hasn't been given a reason for it. He was just asked to 'take someone else.' When I tried to confront the producers, I wasn't given a proper reason. As much as I have been trying to get some clarity on the matter, they have been putting the conversation off, which is very weird."
According to Taapsee, the film was meant to go on floors in February and has, therefore, led to a lot of chaos in her work plans. "I assumed that I was the first choice since the director narrated the script to me first. After moving my dates, I think it would have been better if I was informed about the development instead of finding out about it from others. I deserve an answer. This is disheartening. I wish such a thing never happens to another actor." She, thus, expressed that she has learnt a good lesson and will be careful before celebrating a good script in the future.
On the work front, Taapsee will now be seen with Akshay Kumar in Mission Mangal and with Amitabh Bachchan in Badla. We wish her all the best and hope that these turn out to do super well.
On the other hand, the co-producers Bhushan Kumar and Juno Chopra released a joint statement on the matter, explaining that, "When a script is locked, every director or producer approaches actors for the casting of the film. It's a basic protocol followed by almost all filmmakers. Similarly, for our upcoming project Pati, Patni Aur Woh, we reached out to many actors, who we thought could be our potential protagonists in the film."
They further said, "The versatile actress Taapsee Pannu was one of the many actresses we had approached for one of the leading ladies in the film. However, we as producers, have never made any commitment to her. We would like to clarify that our casting was purely done on the basis of who suited the characters to the tee. Taapsee is an extremely talented actress and we would love to work with her in the future. We will soon make the official announcement for the final cast of Pati, Patni Aur Woh."
Meanwhile, it was reported that Ananya Pandey, who will be seen in her Bollywood debut Student Of The Year 2, is also in talks for this remake, co-starring Kartik Aaryan. Interestingly, the pair has been getting quite cosy in parties and dinner dates. If the rumours ring to be true, they might even be dating!
