A general furor has prevailed across the entertainment industry as well as the entire nation since the shocking death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput by suicide. Now, all the nepotism debate, abetment allegations, and conspiracy theories later, Sushant’s case has taken a fresh turn. Here’s all that you need to know:
While Sushant’s family has mostly maintained a stoic stance all this while, the late actor’s father, Mr Krishna Kumar Singh lodged an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and five others on Tuesday. He has accused them of abetting the actor's suicide. The complaint has been logged in Patna and in the same, Mr Singh has further accused Rhea of taking money from Sushant and using him to establish her career in the industry.
“My son was at the peak of his acting career till May 2019. During that period, Rhea and her relatives developed an acquaintance with my son, under a deliberate conspiracy, so that Rhea could establish herself in the film industry and with an eye on Sushant’s wealth… He was later made to rent a house that was haunted, and that had an impact on my son,” Sushant father said in the FIR.
The FIR has been filed under IPC Sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 342 (wrongful confinement), 341 (wrongful restraint), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 380 (theft in dwelling house), and 420 (cheating).
While the Mumbai police are already investigating the case and have taken statements from industry people including Rhea, Patna police would also be looking into the matter now. A four-member team of the Patna Police has already left for Mumbai for investigations.
In the past month, while the country has raged and demanded #justiceforSushant, Sushant’s family has mostly kept mum about it all. His US-based sister, Shweta Singh Kirti recently posted a memory of Sushant and that’s when she was questioned about the same by someone on Instagram. Shweta promptly responded to this by writing, “We were waiting for Mumbai Police to finish the investigation and come up with their reports."
However, after the lodging of the FIR, she did post a picture of Sushant while demanding justice for her brother. This is what she wrote in the caption, “If truth doesn’t matter, nothing ever will! #justiceforsushantsinghrajput.”
While the Patne police look into the case, a video shot during Sushant’s forensic test has gone viral. In the video, two officials can be heard talking about the investigation. ‘If this video gets out then all our investigation would be wasted,’ one of them can be heard saying. The video that was posted by Times Now, has been going viral on social media and points at the possibility of foul play. Watch it here:

Sushant's alleged girlfriend, Rhea maintained a low profile for a long time post his death. It was only after a month, that she finally took to social media and shared a picture with the late actor. "Still struggling to face my emotions.. an irreparable numbness in my heart," she wrote in the caption. Shortly after, she posted yet another picture and requested Home Minister Amit Shah to prompt a CBI inquiry into the matter.
She wrote, "Respected @amitshahofficial sir, I’m Sushant Singh Rajputs girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, it is now over a month since his sudden demise. I have complete faith in the government, however, in the interest of justice, I request you with folded hands to initiate a CBI inquiry into this matter. I only want to understand what pressures prompted Sushant to take this step." Earlier during her investigation by the Mumbai police Rhea had shared that Sushant was under a lot of pressure owing to a rift with some of the leading production houses.
However, Mr Singh's FIR is not the first one filed against Rhea during the entire case. Back in June, a case was filed against the actress by Kundan Kumar, a resident of Patahi locality in Muzaffarpur. He filed the petition before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Mukesh Kumar. However, it wasn't given much weightage considering that none of Sushant's family members had raised the need for an inquiry.
While #JusticeForSushant was already trending on social media, the trend has only grown stronger after the FIR. And while there happens to be a faction that's raging and asking for justice, there are also those who are advising against any name-calling till Rhea is actually found to be guilty of anything in the case. Here's what the Twitterati have to say:
Now that his family is asking for an investigation, it has given a new turn to the entire case. That said, let us all refrain from name-calling until anything is proved. Here's hoping that justice prevails.
