Last week Naagin 5 premiered on Colors TV and created history by becoming the most-watched show on the channel. A lot of viewers and Naagin followers have been ascribing this feat to Hina Khan’s appearance as the ichchadhari naagin on the show. However, here’s a slight twist to the story. Hina featured just in the premiere episodes of the show to give it a headstart and she’d be now replaced by Surbhi Chandna as the lead for the subsequent episodes.
The announcement of Surbhi’s entry in the cult supernatural drama was made earlier this week with a glimpse of her in one of the show’s teasers. And while the idea of Surbhi instead of Hina being Naagin 5‘s lead hasn’t gone down well with a lot of fans, the actress’s first look has finally been revealed.
Ekta Kapoor took to Instagram earlier today to reveal Surbhi’s first look as the next Naagin of the hit franchise. “Reveal of new Naagin…Punarjanam. 🐍 💣 Aa rahi hai apne pyaar aur revenge ke liye!!” she wrote in the caption. Here’s the look:
From the looks of it, one can easily decipher that the stylists have kept Hina’s look from the show in mind while conceptualising the overall style of Surbhi as the next Naagin. That said there are of course marked differences in the looks.
For starters, while Hina’s costume was done in a subtle marsala with dull gold accents, Surbhi’s Naagin costume is a more fiery scarlett with gold accents. However, we are not too sure of her blouse-meets-a-weird-crop-top part of the costume. Well, we’ll blame it on the stylists but there’s something definitely missing from Surbhi’s first look.
And while it’s too soon to say how well Surbhi is going to fit the character, judging by the first look we do feel that Hina brought a certain wildness to the role, quite characteristic of all the lead actresses who have already been featured in the show. While Hina took it up a notch with the trademark Naagin aggression yet pretty feel, we did feel it was missing from Surbhi’s first look.
Meanwhile, fans are somewhat disappointed to find out that Hina Khan wouldn’t be featuring in the show anymore. Hina recently did an Insta live and shared that this was premeditated and she never had any plans of becoming the new Naagin. She revealed, “When she (Ekta) called me herself I couldn’t say no. Had it been somebody else, I am openly saying I would have said no. But it was Ekta so I could not. I have a lot of respect for that lady. She is like an inspiration to me. She knows the fact that I don’t want to do television. I was also offered Naagin 4 as well. Obviously main karna nahi chahti hoon, nahi toh I would have done it but I don’t want to do TV.”
In the live video, she also requested her fans to accept the new cast with an open heart. She added “Please don’t blame anyone. It was my decision. I couldn’t inform you all beforehand due to the embargo. I launched the show and I am done with it. I’d request you not to troll anyone or spread hatred.”
Rest assured, Surbhi is certainly an exceptional actress and we’d like to see what she brings to the role. A lot more will be revealed this weekend with Surbhi making her appearance in the show. Let’s see how it goes.
